Default Hot esc

Hi

Just got a gtb speed controller with sp 7.5 motor. Esc doesn't have a fan but after 5 mins running the top of the esc is really hot. Cools down straight after.

Only had basic 13.5 motor with rtr esc, is the above normal

Appreciate your thoughts.

How hot is "really hot"?
Thermal cut out on most of my ESCs is between 90-110 degrees C.
I usually run them to about 80-85 (ish) this is enough to really make me regret touching them, i have managed to burn myself before (heatsink stripes on my thumb).

Unless you can say how hot "really hot" is, no one knows if its within normal range.
Though, if there is no thermal shut off, it *probably* is. On the other hand you may only be getting to 50 or 60 degrees (which is quite hot as well) which means you could push the ESC/motor quite a lot harder than you are at the moment.
See if someone at the club has an IR temp thingie.

Cheers for reply

Hot in so far as I can just about keep my finger on it for a second. The heat is there after about 10 seconds without even moving the car, even the wires to the engine are very warm after the same time.

Speedos in durangos get a little warmer as the shell without any holes
dosent invite much airflow like most cars
Fans
Heat sinks
But a speedo gets up to 90 and it ill be fine once its called down 120 is cut off usually so 60 -80 is fine if your still worried put a fan on it and butcher your shell with 10x10mm slots
