Default 1s ESC help (boosters? rx packs? etc)

Hi all,

Looking at sorting out electrics for a serpent s120 LTX to use stock 10.5t racing BRCA series blinky and 13.5T blinky in with the supastox for practise n fun at a local club.

Now this is where im having the big issue, i can get any 10.5t and 13.5t stock motor i want, its the ESC im struggling with.

I want simplicity really, I dont want to faff around with brownouts and cut offs and low power and this that the rest of it, i want something that works, thats it.

So what do i do?
option 1- get a silly expensive 1s ESC that can apparently run everything including servo, receiver and transponder / Possible low voltage issues? brownouts?

option 2 -just buy a 2s ESC and a booster / brownout issues?

Cheers all

I use a Viper VTX1 on 1S and its superb, real smooth lots of power and speed, never a glitch and runs cool as a cucumber.
They're not cheap and only really available from the states at the moment.

Glitching may depend on what radio gear your using though as per any set up
There not cheap and

Radio wise most likely on a sanwa mt4, servo will be a core RC 5kg 0.08 at 6v

Core 1s £50 not silly price.
New hobbywing v2 149 in stock at mbmodels now.
Or as that's now available look for a second hand one on her.

Isnt the core 1s quite limited though? and a bit naff for what i need, plus i dunno if it will be happy without a fan on, as i cant use an ESC with a fan, not enough room

or will it cater as much as say a lrp flow?

my advice would be read your first post, and decide if you want cheap or "silly" price as you put it.

core limited? its capable of running both classes you ask about, for £50.
the flow you compare it to is at least 3 x the price and you still need a booster.

The Viper would be approx £120 plus shipping, this comes with the program card. You can find details here:

Lee Martin is supposed to also be starting to import the Viper stuff but not sure if he has the VTX1.

Radio wise your looking good, I also use the Sanwa MT4 and its awesome. I've never used the Core RC servo, I use a low profile Blue Bird but Savox do a dedicated 1/12 servo, I think it's the 1250 which may be worth a look.

If you go with a receiver pack that will deliver whatever volts and amps you need. Get a LiFe 2S pack so you won't need a voltage regulator. A 2S LiPo receiver pack will need a regulator to be sure of compatibility with every possible receiver/speedo combo.

If you go with a regulator get an RCDynamics one as that will again be fit and forget. Others suffer problems and the Novak ones seem to be the most troublesome. About £35.

I'd go with a 1S speedo, second-hand HobbyWing 1S v2.1 or LRP/Nosram SSX v2. This will not have any brownout problems with the Sanwa gear and the Core servo. No wiring problems, nothing else to charge, fit and forget.

Cash it all up an make a choice - but the 1S speedo option is the best and easiest. HTH
