I'm looking to get a new ESC for a Cyclone D4.. And I'm having a heck of a time deciding... so I was looking for your input.
I think I'd prefer to stay sensorless.. Just less stuff to go wrong..And I really want to get a setup with solder on style wiring rather than prewired like MM.. So I can get a cleaner install... um.. Price isn't too big of factor.. But reliability is. I'm looking at the Tekin R1... I've had good luck with LRP in the past too... Not sure which motor either.. Control and reliability is more important that speed.. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks |

I ran the R1 Pro for the start of this season and it is a nice little speedo, very reliable easy to tune and its small! solder on tabs which is useful too.
I'm now running the RS which has the advantage of being sensored for starting the motor (cleaner crisper starts) but the best thing is, if you motor or lead gets wet, or the hall sensors get damaged it will ignore the bad signal and carry on in sensorless mode..... best of both worlds. (its also exactly the same size as the R1) Tekins new motors will be available soon and have just been roar approved so should be BRCA legal before too long. hope that helps |

Definitely get something that will at least give you the option to run a sensor lead as it does make a difference in control. There are several speedos that will work both sensored and unsensored, like Tekin, GM-Racing, SpeedPassion, etc.
