This might be a noob question but here goes ...........
Having read Jimmy and Vickys report on the Euros, ive seen that although Neil Cragg is sponsored by Associated and therefore runs a B4, he races Yokomo in 4wd How come he doesnt use the B44 ? How do these "team" drives work ? I cant imagine that Lewis Hamilton would hop out of his McLaren and into a Williams etc ![]() Cheers |

2wd and 4wd are totally seperate classes. Neil has been attached to Yokomo for a long time before the B44 came out. I assume he has opted to stay with Yokomo in 4wd to repay them for their years of support to him.

I would image Neil has a contract with AE for 2wd and as AE never used to have a 4wd neil had to choose a diffrent car so yoke it was so neil has a contract so neil has to drive for that team for the life of the contract then he can either renew it or move which ever he wants.
Some drivers drive both the same make cars some dont look at pidge last year he drove aero and AE. A

Ash is spot on..... Neil is contracted still to run Yokomo and after this result who knows he may well decide to sign up for some more with them..........
Kev Lee for instance this year is running Aero/AE (as Lee M did last season) and several other drivers get "deals" from different brands for the different classes, look at Hupo for instance

The Associated/Yokomo tie up goes back about 25 years. It was Yokomo who first came up with a motor where the brushes were replaceable to increase performance over the 'silver can' motors we all used at the time. They tied up with Associated's Mike Reedy to tune and market the motor.
AE had cars (the RC12, RC500, etc.) and were first into the Off-Road boom with the RC10. 4WD wasn't a class in the US in those days, but as it became one, Yokomo produced a car. There was always believed to be an unwritten agreement that AE made 2WD, and Yokomo 4WD, and that they wouldn't compete. Most AE drivers drove Yokomo for 4WD, and most Yokomo drivers drove AE 2WD. Craig Drescher, Rory Cull and many others had this arrangement; Neil is carrying on a combination that has won more National and International titles than any other. It is only in the last five or so years that this has changed because AE had a competitive 4WD car. It isn't at all strange; what's strange to me is that after 20 years of the RC10, AE has a 4WD car! Thanks for the replies guys. Seems to me that there is very little between the actual chassis and its all about the driving.
Well done Neil ![]() |
