Default WORM Winter wonder race series...First race 30th Sept

We're only 2 weeks away from our first proper meeting on our all new AstroTurf track...and the start of regular racing at WORM throughout the winter*

We've managed to get most of the meetings on Sundays, but have a few odd dates on Sundays to avoid clashing with other local/national RC events.

For more info about WORM, a full race calender, etc etc visit the website at www.worm-racing.co.uk

*Wonderful UK weather permitting...but lets face it, it couldn't be much worse than the summer we've just had!

Plus...

For anyone who is around and free to give us a hand, we'll be at the track on Sat 22nd doing the final track preparations...all the hard work is done, so it's much more easy and fun work to do now...

1) Lay extra new track markings
2) PA system install
3) Install the timing loop
4) Final cutting in of the astro around the tree climb
5) Lay membrane under the astro joints at the railway end of the track.
4) General track area tidy up!

Everyone and anyone welcome...we'll be at the track from about 10:30am onwards for the whole day, any time you can spare gratefully received!

Default Tyres

Which tyres seem to work well on the track as will be racing for the first time in about 10 years next Sunday ?

Tyres...well...

Traditionally my pit box contains schumacher minispike yellows for the dry, and ballistic buggy spike greens for the wet...

But...

Since it's newly laid Astro, the track surface is still shedding sand, so it's slightly lower grip than we'd expect in general currently, although it's improving with every run, and we're keeping on top of the loose sand brushing it off as often as possible. Running a meeting on it finally should see it improve now though, I'd hope with a few more cars on it it'll clean up a bit quicker!

We've not had lots of running yet, only a few practice runs really, but yellows are looking ok in the dry, and run in/worn ballistics aren't proving to be as useful as normal in the wet at the mo, prob due to the sand, so I've been thinking it's time to find something with a little harder compound to cut through the loose sand a bit better in those conditions...(though I've not tried brand new ballistics yet, so they might be better), but I'm tempted to try some schumacher greens for the damp/wet, see how they go...

Only a few days until the first meeting of the winter series...track and surrounding area is looking much tidier now thanks to the help of the hardy few on Saturday, suspect there will be a few down there this saturday too, doing as much as possible to get the place looking ship shape, so feel free to come along and help if you can!

So who's coming along to race?

I'm in for 2wd and 4wd

Oh...and if it's too wet to run outdoors, we'll move the meeting up to Yatton and do it indoors instead...and with a little bit of encouragement and better turnouts they'll put the track downstairs sooner too I reckon
