Default 501x Screw Stripping Blues

I cannot beleive 2 screws holding the front diff assembly in place stripped. I thread locked them with blue threadlocker.

Please for goodness sake, dont use any kind of threadlocker on this car.

And when you build the diffs, you better have that spacer and spring in there or else your pulley will go bye bye in a hurry...

Now to remove them screws I have to take a dremel's cutting disc and remove the two screws with a flathead screwdriver...

Stupid stock screws get on my freekin nerves.

If you don't use threadlock on this car, I wil fall apart during a single run ! You MUST use threadlock but not the blue one. I use Loctite 222 (the pink one).

Have you got the right size tools? Or were you trying to take them out with a philips screwdriver?

The 501X screws have a very shallow hex - and combined with the way they 'lock' against the carbon when you first use them, they can strip pretty easily. I'd use grease on the countersunk chassis and tamiya threadlock on the screw.

I got those peskey screws out last night.

Now I just have to get to installing that front one-way durga pulley.
I have been running my other car at the moment though,
since the other cars parts are easier to get.

Before buying my 501X I read through Jimmy's review a couple of times. Still the best purchase Ive made to date buying the 501X. I wanted to prove the point that the original screw kit would be good enough to use. I put grease on the countersunk heads before screwing them to the chassis, used the correct threadlock and the proper tools for the job. On my first rebuild I could not get about half a dozen of the screws out with the hex stripping like it were made of cheese. Even if the fitting wasn't so shallow the metal the screws are made from is crap. Ive had to slot a hole in many of them now and remove with a flat head screwdriver and some luck. DOH! Ever since then I replaced them all with some quality fixings and keep the original screws for my plastic vintage cars. My advise-DONT USE THE DAMN ORIGINAL SCREWS-THEY SUCK.
