12v power supply

does that not need to be connected to some sort of power? or does it just work?

I think what dexter is after is something for charging batteries without any other kind of power
like a car battery or an alternative

12V leisure (deep-cycle) battery. Or if you don't do that much re-charging during the day, you can get away with a small 12V gel-cell.

Yeah thats what i was on about or a petrol generator, what sort of power would i be looking at ?

The inexpensive generic 850W-ish generators that you see from a variety of sources are fine for racing - quality is so-so, some people have problems, mine has been fine.

Petrol generators are noisy and smelly and lot of tracks will have rules about their use and location which might make taking one more hassle than a 12V. Petrol is not so cheap these days either, it would take about £7 to fill mine and that will probably only just last 2 race meetings.

I have a 12v Leisure battery, cost about £80 from local caravan shop and it's on it's 3rd season now, still going strong...

if your going to buy a genny you will also need a 12 volt psu to plug into it
