Default Tyre Rules For Maritime Racing

Dear Racers

Please help

We are trying to work out which tyre rules would be best at Maritime Racing Off Road Venue

So please see poll attached

When voting please think of all races ability
I.e beginners to A final nationals

The rule we would like in place would be a rule that would encourage
the largest number of racers to use the new Maritime Racing venue

And feel keeping the cost down would help this

Thank you for your help

To be honest Ian a tyre rule wont really matter as 99% of the people attending will run staggers and mini pins.

I wouldnt enforce a tyre rule as alot of people want to use up old worn out yellows from outside that still work pretty well on carpet and makes the racing cheaper and will bring more people through the door.

I would just open the track up and let the people come and race, us off roaders don't like too many rules, we are a bit more chilled than the TC brigade!

Just a thought...is the best rule for tyres not to have a tyre rule?

I know for our Caldicot club, leaving it open has never caused any probs...I think most people know that minipins are the tyre of choice for the fastest drivers, but some of the newer/less experienced/slower runners like mini spikes as they are more forgiving...it's a choice how competitive/serious you want to be then

Ian totally agree I think the only rule that should be in forced is no additive rule no off road meeting should allow additive.

Keep it simple lets not create work for you guys

Hi stu

A no additive rule will be in place

But back to the tyre rule if left open
Would we not get the below

If u have say 100 races

The top 10 what ever they use will not worry

The bottom 60 again just enjoy racing and not worry
The mid 30 complain that they need to buy new minipins each week
So stop coming coz of cost

Ian knight

(please note this is not me telling you this is just
Trying to make maritime racing a place that drivers want
To come to for fair racing )

Hi

Thank you for your post

As stated minipins are the fastest this is the worry for the
Club and why the poll was made.

We are worried if no tyre rule is in place
Drivers that do not use the minipins will
feel that they need to use them to
Be able to keep up.

This could then stop drivers attending
Coz they do not want to keep spending
Money on tyres each week

Hope I am making sence

but on the other hand ian mini pins will ware out faster and us off roaders dont want to spend the money every week

its a catch 22

i would hope to be able to run at the sharp end and i will not spend the money on pins every week that's why i gave up tc racing.

its your call buddy im sure you will make the correct decisions.

Hi
As your quote u want to be top end
But want to keep the cost down

This is why we are asking for the help to get
This right as if in your case or any other drivers being at the top
End and have to run minipins that wear out
After a week will start make the top races the ones with the biggest
Wallet
And pos losing races like yourself

We have certainly not found it to be an issue at Caldicot, and the club has been running weekly for over 20 years!...it's all personal choice at the end of the day.

For me at least, it's club racing, and is not about the sharp end as such! Racing at the sharp end is doing your regionals, nationals and one off big events...that's where you really invest in your racing as that's where it means the most.

Club racing is week in week out, the racers know the score, they know who the quick ones really are, the ones they can compete with and who they can't, and who they are aiming for in the long term. And everyone manages their own costs according to what they can afford.

I suspect having some people on new and some people on old tyres each week just adds to the variety for those who are competing within themselves, and that probably just keeps it interesting...at the end of the day it's toy cars and hanging out with your mates and should just be all good fun and good practice...leave the rules and regulations for the big competitions!!

Just my opinion of course, but we've always kept our club racing as relaxed as possible, and don't even run club championships as it just starts arguments about rules and regulations! We do however run occasional one off race series to add different classes...vintage and trucks for example...and leave the big classes...2wd, 4wd & micro's to have their big comps outside club time....there are so many choices for competitions these days it seems daft to add to that party too much!

The club is now as popular as it's ever been and we don't see our setup changing any time soon

I think a "No tyre rule" is right to start off with. You want as many people as possible racing. As time goes on things may change and the rule may want to be looked at.

Hi all

Thank you if you have voted

Please keep vote if you have not already

For the record we was looking at a tyre rule just to keep the COST of racing down the last thing we wanted was a tyre war and driver feel there made to buy tyre just to keep up

So as said please keep voting but by the looks of things open is what the drivers want

No tyre rule
It matters not, even if you have a rule, generally those with newer tyres will do better, so those that need to win club meets generally still will because they will spend the cash on new rubber or additive or whatever.
Until that is someone rocks up and dominates because they're better
Simples, run what you brung, far less stress for the club too
Proof will be in the pudding, as soon as the next big meeting happens, the better drivers arrive, and dominate

Totally agree.

You could well find that worn tyres are better than new. Especially on the wooden wall of death. If that turns out to be the case then tyre costs are going to be cheap.

If new tyres are much quicker then maybe some sort of limit on tyres. Perhaps introduce a quick scrutineering upon book in. Ie, when I book in with a set of new tyres, the wheel is marked M1. The next week they are marked M2.

O n the back of that a rule stating that a new set of tyres are only allowed every 2 weeks, or one set a month for Tuesday nights.

For any Sunday meetings then one set per day.

Everyone would be in the same boat, and those with more funding would not have an advantage then. It would just be good fun racing.
