Brush looks fine,
I'd be looking for a compressor with a bigger reservoir tank. I think this is more the sort of thing used by nail artists, I may be wrong. Perhaps somebody with more experience/knowledge might chime in.

Cheers

I use a compressor like that, it's annoying as hell!lol But it can cope just about, just don't go continuously spraying large areas as it won't like it after a while. It's best to buy one with a decent sized tank like Julian says.

My friend had a Iwata kit like that and the compressor was crap. I use a 24 litre compressor like the one in the pic only problem with mine is that it's really noisy.

That compressor looks overkill to me.

The one you've picked out will do the job fine , they are quiet enough to use indoors. You'll just have to be a little more patient with it waiting for the pressure to build back up as it hasn't an appropriate tank to store air in, having a good sized tank means it won't need to come back on as often.

Hope this helps.

I killed a Holding compressor similar to that, which was noisy and ran out of steam after 20-30 seconds at higher psi.

Bought an Iwata Shark from Airbrushes.com on a deal. Silent, 100psi continuous!!!!, air filter, water trap, and cooling fan.

I've never looked back...

cheers

Ju

I don't just use it for my airbrush so it's not overkill for my needs. Only reason I got it coz it was on sale from screwfix for 45 quid, it lives in my shed so noise is not a problem.

They also sell this which has a 3l tank would this be better, if i dragged a compressor in my house like that clark one and fired it up to paint a shell the missus would cut my nuts off with a very blunt and very rusty instrument

Nice quote dude.

The Clark one isn't over kill, it would provide good air and more than you want but the noise issue is a real problem.

Your initial listing from ebay is okay, it would get you started but that compressor has no tank, it's direct air. Because of this it will have to work hard to keep up the air supply with these paints as they need quite a bit of pressure to spray. Also because it's direct air it will pulse, that is the piston that produces the air will make any fine lines you try and do inconsistent by the very nature of the way it works and creates air.

You can if you search this very forum find out how to make a completely silent one from an old fridge motor and a little tank. I didn't realise this but it's essentially how silent compressors are made.

Depending on your budget you could try the 8th one down on this page http://www.everythingairbrush.com/ac...AS_Series.html it's essentially the same compressor you were going to buy but has a receiver tank underneath it to store the air, however only being a 1 litre tank you'll soon run out and because of that the compressor will be working very hard ! Staying on that page there is one listed a little further below that has a 3litre tank AB-AS196, this would be much better for only another 14 quid. However you're still without an airbrush.

Everything airbrush are great and do copies of Iwata Airbrushes for a fraction of the price, granted the quality isn't there but for 30 quid you can't really complain http://www.everythingairbrush.com/ac...vity_Feed.html
It would give you a good starting point and if you got one of the £30 brushes and that compressor with the 3ltr tank it's still less than the one you initially looked at on ebay.

When you've painted a few shells and decided you want something better you can get the Iwata airbrush then, while you're learning though the AB-130A would be fine, to be honest it's what I use, I've got an Iwata too but the nozzle is too fine for this so I just grabbed one of those for myself. Does alright !

Hope that helps

Thanks very much for the advise everyone, and your advise eyeayan has been crucial i now understand the compressor part.

I have now decided to get that 3l twin pump compressor you have reccomended and i have decided on the iwata hp-c, so that should keep me going for a while.

Now all i need to do is get practising and practicing, hopefully i will be as good as you guys at some point.

Oh have you any recommendations on which liquid mask, and advise on what paints to start out with?

Again thanks all.

You can get all your paint and masking from Jon Miller at RCS, I think 99% of us on here use what he sells. The Liquid Mask he sells is the best you can buy, the createx paints combined with Jon's own special effects stuff will give you every conceivable colour combination you could ever want.

If you get stuck on painting technique or anything else post up on here and I'm sure one or all of us will chip in with what you need to know.

Looking forward to seeing some of your work this is a very fun and rewarding part of the hobby hope you enjoy it
