Default Cat SX2 which lipo to buy?

I have just bought a Cat SX2 which takes a stick style Lipo with a maxium height of 24mm. My current Nimh batteries are done in 5 mins so I thought an upgrade to lipo is the way forward.

So I need advice on a new charger as well as a new lipo pack. The motor I run is an LRP Vector X11 5.5 turn and the car is not used for racing so battery robustness over absolute performance is more important for me.

Can anyone help?

Richard

basically any brca legal lipo will fit, but i'd advise one that has cell locators on the bottom to slot into the chassis. Otherwise the lipo can slide sideways a bit in a bit crash.

I used speedpower 5300 30c in mine and they were great. Can pick them up second hand for around £30

Is this correct? I had an LRP (BRCA approved) and it didnt fit in my old SX.
Im not sure they all do.
BUt its just the height that is the issue. (the height seems to be a factor as the C rating increases. So Jim's 30c ones wouldnt have an issue, but the 55C and 60C batteries nowadays might not go in.)

And 100% agree with Jim - go for the bumps. Big help.

I also ran Speed Power batteries in my Cat SX and they were top notch.
Its what alot of the top guys run too (Lee Martin, Tom Cockerill I think) so they are good gear.

I bought mine, brand new, from Speed Power in Hong Kong for £50 delivered! The only downside is you have to wait 3 weeks.
But hard to refuse at that awesome price.

Charger - any decent brand. Those 4 button style chargers seem to be the big thing at the moment. Core-RC are making one which is less than £50 new now, and comes with all the safety bits, and a good spec.
Dont get any charger that isnt specifically designed for Lipo batteries.
And make sure that it can charge at 1C (i.e. if you go for a battery with 6000mAH then you will want to be charging at 6 amps - my charger can only go up to 5 amps)

I got an SMC C-Max Extreme 6000mAh, 7.4v 60c 2nd hand on here for £30.00. Tried it last night with my son and was still going strong after an hour

I believe it's BRCA approved??
