I didn't think it would be long - i started a thread about this ages ago but the guy looking at it for me lost interest!
http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3369 To be honest though Tel i can't see it ever over taking a good paint job, as they'll still be pretty much the same and i guess for 1/8th it's good purely as the fuel and stuff wrecks the shells whereas 1/10th shells should last a full season :-)

until they offer completely full customisation to the design then you still have a job Terry (and DCM)
I also think TC's it would add a lot of weight to the shell? |

You just change your way of working Instead of painting onto shells, your designing on a computer, plotting/printing the design out and then sticking it on a shell!

Slight problem there......the thousands of pounds that it costs for the machinery to print and plot the vynil. ![]() We used to have one where I used to work. That was just a basic machine and that cost £12,000!! |

Check out this picture of Ryan Cavalieri's Team Associated B44. His body is painted white in the front, red in the back, and the rest is all a skin. Upgrade skins make it very easy for the person just getting into the hobby all the way up to the fastest pro's in the world to have great looking bodies. Also, the detail you can get on a skin is unmatched compared to painting. Let me know what you guys think of Cavalieri's body.

ultimate in lazyness
![]() It's hard to tell from the photo but is the yellow fluorescent? (neon I think you might call it) and are there any special effects possible, I'm thinking chrome, glitter (sounds a bit girly, I admit) etc... I paint a half decent shell when I do my 1 or 2 a year, but I hate painting. Give me photoshop and illustrator and I'm happy - now that would be the future, design your own. Think I might drag this one onto the design as it's my favorite pic of the moment. ![]() Last edited by jimmy; 27-03-2008 at 09:18 PM. |

Not a lot of special effects on Cavalieri's body as he likes it very simple and clean. We can do some pretty wild stuff though. I don't want to fill up the thread with a ton of pictures though. Check out the link for some other decals we did for Cavalieri as well.

I got to admit. That is an awsome picture. The Neo Girls were off the hook. Probably the best looking R/C trophy girls I have ever seen...

Just had a look at the skins in a little more detail and find them yuck.. They might be nice at about 3 metres but get close and you can see the edges and the colour differences between the paint and the sticker.
I suppose it would get worse if you've run the car for a while and the vinyl or whatever they are made of gets trashed a little. But then I don't like stick-on air vents and "detailing" on real cars either... Paint all the way with a couple of carefully placed stickers better than that any day. |

there is one downside to skins.... people send shells to sprayers so they don't have to fudge the paint job, so when they get there SKIN, and then try to apply it, gets bubbles and creases and lifts.... they will be back heehee.....

Looks awesome, im loving the topdeck on that B44!
Also the detail you can do on a computer is insane, would be hard to do with a airbrush!

but you would have to pay a skilled computer artist to produce them, and the fact that the machinery to print them gonna cost so they are never going to be as cheap as having a bespoke airbrush job.
The other thing to remember, for me anyhows, it isn't so much as how the car looks statically, but how it looks on the move.
