Default Vinyl Wrap's - For R/C?

I'm sure you've all seen the F+F style Jap Race cars fully covered in Vinyl so that it looks like a paint job.

Has anyone done this for R/C yet?

I've got a really good contact who does loads of work on Mitsubishi Evo's and i've suggested it to him to see what he thinks.

I'm thinking of getting him some clear shells to have a play with, but if he can come up with a nice easy to put on Vinyl wrap for say a B4 and Losi XXX shell the possibilities for design and colours would be simply unlimited. I'm thinking initially he would just need to design the shape of the Wrap so that it goes over all the curves etc without any problems - then customizing the colours and design would be the fun part.

Does anyone know of a reason it wouldn't work? I know the shells are designed to flex a bit, but i think there's a way around it with the vinyl he would be using.

I'll have a bit more of a think yet but just wanted to see if anyone can instantly think of a good reason this won't work??

basically... yes... Companies already make them.. You need a print and cut machine and to laminate it (since it wont last otherwise) but thats all - nothing too fancy.

I thought about getting a print and cut machine a year or so ago for doing custom stuff like this but I do too much already.

We do it a lot here on our "dirt oval" cars. There are some cars that REALLY look fantastic in 4-color wraps. From everything I have seen, though, they wrap is really best suited to flat areas that don't have compound curves.

I attached a photo of a car recently done by one of the guys on our forums (dirtoval.com), but yes, the possibilities are endless.

Someone like Jimmy could do wonders with artwork and "print & cut" technology like this.

Sweet, they don't do any for buggy's yet so i definitely think there's a market, plus the main things is that i would be able to get them 100% customised, so you could even have a Wrap for your own design (current) or something?

Lee, just think people could order a Lee Martin wrap but with Blue instead of orange or something

Hi Ian, well i guess the main initial cost will just be designing the template, then the actual producing shouldn't be too much - i'll have to talk to the guy about all that stuff yet but i'm just getting ideas at the moment..... If it was under £20 a shell i think it would be pretty good?

some of tamiya's car used to come "pre-printed" - the mercedes touring cars if i remember correctly.

They printed the lexan first and then moulded it.

Its not somat you can do yourself realy though. Where I used to work had one of the digital print and cut machines........£18000! and that was almost a base model.

The full size jobs are done on a special p**s thin vinyl, so that it fits contours of cars when it is warmed up. Its propper impressive and has to be done in a dust free environment thats temperature controlled.

r/c wise, it could be done on normal vinyl unless you want a propper job that covers the whole car with very little joins in it.

But yes it could be done.
