Hi Guys,
I'm sure this has been asked 100's of times, but I'm once again looking at jumping up to 1/12th scale from Mardave circuit - I really like the look of the newish in-line cell cars; Gen xi, S120 Link tube and Ae 5.1 with conversion kit (5.2). Couple of questions - am I right in thinking that the Gen xi can only run stubby CRC Lipo's in line? Does the serpent warrant the extra expense over the CRC (Looking at Action Model Centre's site re pricing) Is it worth going in line - of course on paper to me it makes sense - but it's a £90 option for the AE for example - making the Serpent look good value for money. Is there anything I'm missing regarding chassis choice? Thanks Mark |

The Gen Xi can run any LiPo you want, either sideways or inline. The default configuration is sideways as in the kit. As the LiPo is down the middle in inline you need small electrics to make it all fit.
Sideways vs inline - the jury's still out I think. The V-Dezign is still working very well and that has a sideways configuration. I think unless you are one of the very top drivers you will not notice the difference. The more important thing is to get the centre of gravity forwards which all of the latest cars are capable of doing. From what I have seen so far the Serpent is a marmite car, people either get it working very well or can't make it work at all. Just a thought, if you want to save some money I actually have two factory spec Gen Xis and a load of spares that I haven't put up for sale yet. I gained Corally sponsorship hence the switch of car. In-line is like people with MBAs - Maybe Best Avoided. Lots of people are finding those cars tricky to drive, whereas, as Trev says, there is plenty of success being had with the sideways cars. Your best bet is any from the CRC, AE and V Design with a sideways layout, and there are usually many available second hand.
If you buy second hand, please get the car to any of the many people at Nationals who are volunteering to help new drivers, and have one of them rebuild it. Most people get rid of their 12th cars because they can't get them to handle. That usually means they haven't built them properly, so despite them being immaculate/excellent/BNIB or any other likely description, there's every chance they will be built poorly. Trev will prove the exception to that Rule, so you could do no better than getting in on his immaculately tended collection before they hit a well-known auction site! ![]() ![]() |

If you got enough money for it, I would say Vdezign.
The build is flawless with all options already included on the kit. I bought one and I'm really happy about it. No inline here. VESA is very helpfully too and a few might still be available. The Kyosho one looks nice too with the same chassis topology. A bit cheaper. But the velvet shocks ![]() |
