Default Noob(ish)

Having recently had my old car returned to me by my mother clearing out the house I was thinking about maybe racing it and I was wondering whether it would be possible to do it vaguely competetively and how far stuff has moved on?

The car is a Tamiya Super Astute which is probably about 20 years old, and may need a new battery/motor/gearbox to race.

What kind of motors are used these days? Have the frequencies moved on? Do we need to bring our own chrystals(?) for the radio frequencies?

in 20years things are completley different.

Radios
Motors
Batteries
Chargers
Cars

I would keep your astute for fun and enjoy it and why not have a play on the track but you will not be very competitive racing.

Go to the club and see what speeds the cars are doing i think you will be surprised.
