Default xxx-cr ... racing off road for the first time this weekend

Hi, thanks for looking

I intend on taking my losi xxx to bury metro this sunday. (indoor)

I have never raced off road before!

Some questions about setting the car for racing... (I will also post some of this bit in the Bury metro forum so beware of repeated info)

How should I set my car? Its in pieces at the minute!

I have all available shock springs, orange, red, black pistons, few different size spurs and pinions from 14t to 30t,

Tyres... some rear spike, soft pin and some softer "fuzzies" (square profile with loads of treads) and front ribbed or spike or soft (red?) compound mini pin type.

Also I have a gear diff and tranny case off a truck which is supposed to fit, is it worth building this up over the ball diff? and what oil should I use in it?

Cheers
Alan

Quality car!! You'll love it! As a starter try orange front yellow rear springs, 40wt front and 32.5/30 wt rear, build ya gear diff up with thin diff oil, try either 2000 diff oil or maybe even some 40wt shock oil and see how that feels, ride height approx 8-10mm might need to adjust slightly depending on the configuration of the track (height of jumps etc)
What electrics ya running in it? Again dependant on track size/layout will determine pinion size, 21-22 tooth pinion on a 78 spur (6.5 brushless) Good start but ask the lads, sure they'll put you in the right direction, and the best advice I can give is try changing one maybe two things at a time that way if it don't work ya can easily change it back, oh yeah and............ Enjoy yourself!!!

Hi,
Thanks for your response, all set and ready to go!
Only thing was couldn't use the gear diff as the bolts need to be the width of the motor plate longer! Bummer
I do have a spare ball diff built just incase.
Electics, I have a nosram 10.5t and hobbywing 120a, probably way too fast for me in a 2wd buggy! (thinking of using nimh just to calm it a bit) but the only other motor I have is an 8t delta

Hi,

Thought I did very well, for me anyway! Placed 4th out of 11 in the B final!
That was with an almighty crash just about 3/4 of the way through the race which destroyed my motor, so I cruised the remainder of the race! It was only the pinion and the part of the casing which remained attached to the motor plate which enabled me to carry on! Here was me thinking the sensor wire had come out!!

Ended up running pink rear springs and green fronts, yellow mini pins on the rear but didn't have any for the front and used some turf rippers.
Car understeered like crazy on the polished floor sections, but was well behaved on the carpet.
Most of the guys there were great, with one exeption.. but special thanks must go to Stuart who helped me with setting the car up better and Adey too, who has been advising me on how best to make a mid motor conversion for the car.

Overall I enjoyed my days racing and cant wait to do it again! Just shows you dont need the lastest equipment to have fun!!

Alan

As long as you enjoyed it buddy thats the main thing and as for certain 'exceptions' you always get one idiot i guess but positive attitude means they dont get ya down, well done buddy, try black front springs or yellow rears on your current set up might calm the back down a bit and let the front bite a bit better
