Default Kyosho Lazer ZX5 Pinion Gears

Hi Guys,
Does anyone know of anywhere this side of the Atlantic I can get hold of a selection of various tooth pinion gears? I want to try different ones at my local meet to see how they alter the performance but I am the ONLY Kyosho runner and can't seem to find them on all the usual places on the web. Or is it possible to use another manufacturers gears? My local model shop is shocking so it's web only I'm afraid....fed up of waiting three weeks to get them from the USA - any help would be great - I'm probably being a wing nut but hey ho
Thanks!!

Is your car 48dp? If so, any decent model shop will sort you out.

As far as mail order goes, I've had great service from places like DMS Racing, JE Spares, MK Racing, etc...

I'm sure if you give any of these a call, they'll get you hooked up.

not sure what 48dp refers too? I have the lazer readyset. I am currently running 48 tooth spur and 24 tooth pinion which is what it shipped with. Can I use any pinion on it then - I was lead to believe I should only use kyosho ones??

Default Help with Gearing

Hello,

Can anybody help with gearing my new FS2 im running an Orca 9.5t with matxhing esc and 60c Lipos the motor is at 0' with stock gearing.

The track is a carpet run very tight high grip with only 3 small jumps in total the back straight is approx 20m the rest is 1-2m before another turn and spurt.

Can you guys point me in the right direction as i am the only guy with this car at my local club.

Paul

Hi Paul,

The only way to be 100% sure is to check temp of the motor and esc and also see how it drives on the track, But for sure you will need a smaller pinion. Try a 20 tooth and see how it goes.

Not sure on the ORCA motors but on a similar sounding track with an Orion 8.5 I was running around a 24 tooth pinion.

Best start off a bit lower though and work your way up, check the motor and ESC temps after 2 mins or so to make sure you don't wreck anything.

Thanks guys i was thinking of keeping the stock gearing to make the most of the torque from the 9.5t motor and advancing it a few degrees, should i bin this idea as i might melt something or could there be a method to my madness.

I think it is best to try a smaller pinion first!
As someone who is getting into racing you will need a selection for different tracks and motors etc. if you gear too high and run too long and your esc/motor gets too hot, it will end in tears.
Just keep checking your motor temp is not too hot to touch and that your car is reaching top speed between 2/3 3/4 of the longest straight.
Generally its safer to be a little undergeared than over, and as someone who sells smaller pinions all the time to people that go brushless i have a fair idea
