I have decided to give 2wd off-road a go next year.
I already have the following electrical equipment: 1. Hobbywing 120a v2.1 speedo 2. Corally red 13.5 3. Nosram pure 13.5 4. Speed PAssion mmm 10.5 (used in my 1/12 car) I usually make the a final in TC at HRCC on a friday, and made c finals at the BTCC in 13.5. With that in mind I decided to get a good compeition kit - Durango dex 210 (on order). Now my question is as follows: 1. Should I get a mod? or should I gear up and turbo my 13.5 corally (very torquey - more like a fast 10.5) 2. If I am getting a mod - which turn do I want 6.5, 7.5, or 8.5? 3. Are the 'Ultra Sportsman' Speed passion motors any good - or should I bite the bullet and get a more expensive motor 4. What firmware should I be using on my Hobbywing 120a and what settings should I run. help me obiwan kenobi - your my only hope |

Personally I would try and use what you got and try a 13.5 and use the 211 softwear I think which is the latest stock softwear and turn up the boost timing but I wouldn't put much turbo timing on it. And of corse don't rev it up on a table but I'm sure you no that :-)

Personally I don't think that boost gives you the feel you need for off-road, and feel is very important.
Last season I ran the SP 13.5 on 205MOD for most of the year, it lacked a little rip and a little top end but it was easy to drive and on the relatively compact tracks I was racing on it didn't cost me much time. Later in the year I switched to an 8.5. It was quick, it was fun, but I only gained a couple of tenths per lap. |

I've recently taken up off-road as well and also wanted to use my TC gear.
I'm running an old X11 10.5 motor which is probably no quicker than your corally 13.5. I run the HW 211 Stock software. I don't run any boost as I want it nice and smooth on the infield. I do run 30deg of turbo with a long delay (0.7s) and a slow (6deg/0.1s) ramp. On smaller tracks this won't even kick in, but it means when I come to a big track like Coventry I've got decent speed on the straight without having to change gearing. So I think you'll be fine with what you've got, and it'll probably give you a smoother, easier to drive car than fitting something like a 6.5 to get decent speed on the straight. |

I've not got my cars with me but use the V3_119MOD firmware with something like 8.5.
Set the turbo to the 30deg, set the start RPM to the lowest setting, the ramp rate to the lowest setting, the turno delay to 0.4s and the base timing to 16deg. That will give you a VERY smooth power delivery with all the feel you need in off-road and reasonable top end. Gear the motor a couple of teeth under what most people are running the same type of 8.5 on and check temps after 2mins, 3mins etc etc and adjust to suit so you can easily do 7mins without the motor getting too hot (warmup laps, 5min race + close down lap). Stunning firmware the V3_119MOD!!!! |
