Default GTB Li-Po Update

Hi!

I have a GTB, and read on Novak's website that it now includes a Li-Po cutoff as standard. Is there anyway that I can find out whether my GTB includes this Li-Po cutoff feature as standard, such as a part number or keycode?

Thanks
Mark

Mark,

According to the instructions I have there is a way of turning on the cut off...would it be worthwhile trying to turn it on and see if the sequence of LEDS happens?

Obviously if the LED sequence doesnt happen..you havent got it as standard?

Basic idea..but it might work??

Its likely to have had a sticker on the box it came in. If the shop you bought it from had it sat on the shelf for any length of time that it was dusted around, chances are its pre-Lipo. Anything out of Novak has had that ability for a while, but thats not to say the shops have sold there old stock.

Oh, you CAN run lipo on a pre-Lipo esc, and it works just fine. Just don't try and push the boundaries of runtime, as a flat Lipo is not good - i.e. always fully charge the Lipo and limit your runs to 5-6 minutes (which is wise regardless due to heat).

Otherwise, if you want to eliminate the need to think about it, a voltage cut-off can be added.

Thanks guys, I will check my box and instructions. I noticed that on the website, that they only have the post LiPo update instructions, but will dig mine out tonight for a butchers.

If all else fails, I will email novak and ask!

Thanks
Mark

I also emailed novak about this, here is the reply

Hello,

Yes, it’s very simple.

All you have to do is check to see if your ESC has the Lipo Mode in the software.

Turn on the ESC.

Press and hold the button and count how many different “light changes” there are.

If you have 5 light changes, then it does not have the lipo.

If you have 6 light changes, then it does.

The manual for either version of the GTB is also on our website of course. It’s in the Download Section, the link is below if you need it.

Cheers janus,

Thats ace. I have a feeling mine will not have it, since it was one of the few that had the bonded rotor in the motor, but will give it a try. It's not too much of a problem, but will have to be careful with the li-po.

Thanks all.

M.

Mark, surely you can fit this in, it's really not vey big. There is no way I'd run a Lipo without the cutoff as we all forget things sometimes.

Ok Just Installed a 2C-smart stop for a race today, since I wanted to test my new LiPo's. But I had a problem.

When I punch the throttle form standstill the motor starts to "hiccup", even with a full LiPo pack. When I roll on the throttle gently it works just fine. Since it was a race and I was also helping out with the AMB system I really didnt have time to look for faults. The only things I had time to try were change the motor ( nope ), put a big capacitor over the smartstop ( nope ) and disable the Smart Stop ( it all worked after that, but not really the way I want to go...... ). And yes I did do the setup of the smart stop.

Equipment:
- Charger: Robitronic Overloader
- Battery: Orion 3600
- ESC: GTB ( old model )
- Motor: Novak 5.5 Purple series
- Safety: Novak 2C smart stop

Any ideas on what I'm missing ?
