Hey chaps,
I have had a rear drive pin snap/come loose for the 2nd time now. And think it may have destroyed a new lipo pack ![]() What cover's are people using on there drive pins-I know some kits came with a black cover type thing. But I got mine used and did not come with them. I have been using it uncovered for months. But only recently had issues and want to make/buy a cover for it to help. I have heard of using heat shrink and so on, but was wanting a more robust method any ideas?? cheers gents Jamie |

Think so people use drive shaft boots. TSR are a name I've heard mentioned for this .

Following identical problem after two runs when I bought the car ver. 1 in 2010, I systematically put some heat shrink tube - no issues ever since...

Yeah ideally after a more durable method if possible. As hear the heat shrink can split sometimes and easily let the pin wear through. What size heat shrink did you guys use?

Are brilliant cheers chris-Forot about that tips part! Was looking for the New Cover's and they come with that. Perfect cheers buddy, need to order a few bits for it anyway will add them cheers. |

hey guys ... this is a very critical part of the car. probably the most
![]() using heat shrink to secure the drive pin is not enough. mine (09 spec) went through the lipo with spectacular outcome ![]() i believe the dex410R had a plastic collar. some of you might have seen the pics below from my club thread. good thing some quick-thinking club members helped to separate the saddle packs so damage was contained to just one cell. ![]() ![]() |

indeed.
and the guys who helped pretty much went "not again!" because it happened to another club member 2 yrs back! good thing is .. i have a kit still new in box, waiting to be used for spares. just never expected to use the parts so quickly! ![]() |

kayce - i don't dispute that. in fact, totally agree that it is a rare thing to happen.
just wanted to highlight the fact that when doing routine maintenance and checks of the car, there are some parts that are more important than others and this particular one should be at the very top of the list. |

it happened to me 2 years ago. i have the fire on video somewhere. didnt destroy the shell though, managed to remove it on time. i still have one intellect 5200 cell which is no use to me without the other half. the plastic collar on my v3 is a must. just wish it was on the v1

i must add i had 2 grub screws in each joint and threadlock on each screw but still the 1.5mm pins seemed to work there way out. i guess thats why they upgraded them to the 2mm pins

As I mainly run 1/8th nitro, I never had the chance or the funds free to spend on my DEX410 to replace the worn parts-which are the driveshafts ect. And the fact It only had 1 grub screw. And not 2 like the tip says, Im now running leccy in the winter. So will have available funds to replace the worn bits, and get the covers on and so on.
As before I had to put my 1/8th stuff 1st I never had the funds to do so, but yeah alot is down to prep. And its a very *Dangerous* point on the buggy, as shown above 1 fault could be very costly.. |

To secure the pin I cut TD 310039 part.
It s perfect fit it also work for the front and rear driveshaft. |

It seems like quite a cheap solution to a problem that can grow to massive proportions in the wrong circumstances. |
