I have purchased 2 sets of SMC EnerG 4600 Cells. Built them up today and charged them. Whilst charging i noticed that it was at 7.34 volts. Took it off charger and checked individual cell voltage. 1 cell has no voltage output. Any way of trying to put a charge into this cell or does it need replacing.
Any one know who the Distributor is for SMC Cells.

i had some advice from a cell supplier once that said to try & revive a dead cell by flasing it on a 12v battery
![]() not sure i'd be 100% confient doing that with todays cells tho ![]() i suppose you could solder on some wires & put the cell in something just to be safe/er ![]()

i'll have a quick look around & see if i can find where it was written so you can blame somebody else if it goes to critical mass

Hopefully Neil Oliver will be at Coventry tomorrow and will know what to do, if not Bert i will get Matt Simpson to have a look.

why don't you just send them back to the vendor you bought them from?

I have had 2 cells from 2 packs do this in the last 2 week. both the cells now read 0 Ohms.
If you find a solution please post it on here. |

Two packs of my new EnerG cells did this last week. They were delivered with charge in every cell and so i equalised. When i charged i noticed that the cells were reading about 7.5 volts. I equalised and recharged them and and they charged normally and every cell now is working! I have cycled them 2 or 3 times and they are working fine.
So my advice would be to equalise and charge them again and see. |

Mark,
If the cell is at zero volts and is only 'one or two charges old' then send it back. Do you know the voltage when you had them delivered? I always recommend people check the OCV's out of the box, prior to assembly so the 'failure' cannot be blamed on assembly. It is likely the cell has an internal short circuit. Hitting it with a high voltage/current could possibly burn out the short (if it is a small internal 'soft' short) or it could do some serious damage if it is a 'hard' short. It is not really a good thing to do as burning out the short can damage the seperator and the cell will soon die anyway. Lets have a look tomorrow. N |
