Default Speedos with wigs on!

What Speedos are the same but in a different case? Like hobbywing make a fair few of todays speedos but is the Orion R10 a hobbywing V3 ? The new Vampire and Viper ones are they made by anyone ?

LRP & Nosram are probably the most obvious.
I thought that the speed passions and hobbywing were the same, don't know about the others sorry

I cant confirm if the hobbywing and orion are the exact same hardware wise, but the software certainly is hobbywing derived.

The programming feature of the orion R10 is the same as my EZrun 25a in the micro, and the Xerun 80A i had in my 1/8 electric and a GT2.0 pro is used to have.

But as we all know, in the far east most products are shared between factories to save time and cost.

Thats what in mean. If the new R10 is £160 the hobbywing V3 is listed as being £90 ish!

Same with speed passion being double the price of the hobbywing equivalent.

The R10 IS NOT the HobbyWing V3 ... think of it as a high power spec version of the V2.1 (V2.5 if you like).

A great speedo for sure.

HobbyWing V3 will be with us first 1/4 next year so I am told ... can't wait.

I am sure Viper manufacture there own speedos and motors, hense why they are a little more expensive. I guess Darren will confirm this.

Mike, really intressing post mate.........

Also if you have two speedo's which are the same hardware, will the software be diffrent? I recon the software is more important than the actual hardware.

Maybe make a list of speedos, because I really don't know all of them:

LRP - Nosram (same software)
Orian R10
Hobbywing
Speed Pas
KO
Viper - Viper
Castle Creations
Teken
Vampire
Novak - Novak

This same argument has been going on in the golf industry for a really long time, since most of the remaining foundry's worldwide are located in the far east and as a result literally everything is made over there and knock-offs are quite commonplace. The argument being if they look the same they must be the same, and while the pros can tell the difference few of us amatuers can, but the difference being whose economy are you willing to donate directly to its growth on the worldwide marketplace - the chinese or a free nation?

I take your point and that is a broader question. From what I know about the R.C. market, particularly esc's and li-pos, there are quite a few cases of cloned items but just with a different 'wig' then sold at twice the price. They are not (always at least) inferior copies, actually the same with a different 'rug'(sticker). However, I for one would hate to see the demise of U.K model shops as the likes of DMS and co do us a great service, but unfortunately when it comes to the higher priced items we need to buy money talks and in the case of the likes of Mike and I, we can't afford to spend too mcuh at the expense of, say, a new washing machine for the mrs!
