Favourite type of track marking?

So what's you favourite type of track marking? What would you prefer to see being used to lay a track out with?

I guess natural would be best but thats not possible for a temporary track. I guess smallish diameter hose - but not small enough that people will shortcut across it to gain time.


I confess I really don't like those things they use at york. The stuff they used at oswestry would be ok if it was buried slightly but as it was it was similar to york. Neither are very easy to get over if you get stuck on the wrong side of the track.

No contest; upside down white plastic guttering, preferably half round rather than the squarer stuff.

The problem with guttering is you can't make nice sweeping corners, everything is square.

If the white plastic board things were lower would they be better?

Sweeping curves, yeah ya can. Ya just need a few 2 foot peices to make a nice 'loopy' layout.
If you catch the inside of a corner it just throws you off line, not into a big mess.

The trouble with thin pipe is seeing it.

Not if they still bounced me around =S

Drill a 1/8" hole in each end and use a 6" nail to anchor it into the soil.

The white stuff can be seen bright & clear against grass.

Only down side is due to length of each peice, you need a 3 meter long storage area for it and if you are racing away from your normal venue you need a large van to move it about. Hose can be packed in a small van or box trailer.

York only ever seem to get offered the thin stuff that they use indoors..... It's no good for outdoors, not for a regional anyway.

Mooring rope, ace, thick, compliant and don't break your car, swoopy corners are easy. Just tent peg the bugger regular like. Plastic is brittle and I ALWAYS find the one sticky out bit.

Just some 80mm hose lol Nice n easy for me! I know oswestry's the order got messed up.. we asked for 80mm and got 100mm but we couldnt say much when my dad got it all free! All tho, you shouldnt be hitting the pipes lol

I like drain pipes. They are flexible, and still strong enough to make the track, and are really easy to build a track with

Yeah, halfpipe drain pipe is what we always used to use at a few clubs around the NW - Bury (Pre-permanent track), Leigh, Chorley and I think West Craven too but I am not that sure. So that would be my favourite.

Although it doesn't flex to give sweeping bends - so everything is square and right angle. Maybe having drain pipes with some hose?
