Keeping my motor cool advice needed
So, first day back indoors yesterday with my 511, small tight medium grip track and i was running an LRP X12 7.5t motor.
Started out on 17t, then tried 16t and then went the other way to 18t but could not get the motor cool at all. Motor was coming off boiling hot after each run and wont last long running at those temps. Belsten and Griff were also coming off boiling hot and was wondering how to keep it cooler. Ive ordered a heatsink and fan which should help, and drilled some extra holes in the shell, but is there anything else i could do like knock the timing back or similar, or perhaps run a 10.5t instead. Any help appreciated, cheers.

I think the LRP's run hot anyway, I run a 5.5t SP V2 motor on a 20t pinion with 96t spur indoors without any problems.
However just make sure that the drive train is free, the motor bearings are also free. What speedo are you running? Could you turn down the setting on that? Rather than go to a 10.5 why not got for a quicker motor with less timing advance/boost

x12's do tend to run stupidly hot compared to some others, but they will take the higher temps well. I ran one on sat night and just used a fastrax motor cooler between rounds. Still couldn't touch it after a 7 min final though!

I run a 6.5 x12 in my B-Max, always comes off stupidly hot after a run but it seems to like it as it's still as quick as new!
Not even bothered to try to cool it down with fans, cutting body vents etc as not had any problems with it with over a year of running indoors and out *touch wood*

Cooling the motor between rounds is quite important, otherwise the motor temps will get higher as the night/day progresses. I purchased a 12v 4inch fan from maplins, makes a big difference to motor temps.
What speedo are you running? I tried drilling holes in a shell, found it more effective to cut the front and rear away to allow air to be channeled into the body and also exit.

Thanks for the help guys, should have said im running the new orion R10 ESC with punch set quite low and std timing.
I will try the heatsink and small fan next week and keep an eye on it, may also try the fastrax motor cooler to cool after a run as well. Cheers again, great advice as always.

what temp is the motor coming off at? add a fan if you need to, dont waste your money on a fastrax or muchmore motor cooler tho ;-)
