Default Lipo Advice

Am about to buy some new Lipo's so wondered if it is worth spending extra money to buy 6000/6200mah 60C or save a little money and just get the 5500/5800mah 60C ones.

They will be used in 1/10th touring cars to run 10.5 & 13.5t motors only.

Also, how many lipo's do you really need for racing as I was thinking of getting 3 of them?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

I use the SMC 5200mah 60'c and they always have plenty of power left in them. Why are you thinking of getting the greater capacity cells?

There are a few factors that will determine how many you need... Mainly the regime of the club or series you are running, and also the number of racers on the day..

Low numbers means you'll get through your rounds quickly and may not get time to re-charge, therefore one pack wouldn't do.. But if you have plenty of time, it may.

2 is practical, used alternatively for practice, heats and finals, charging whilst using the other.

Difficult to say, but a few things to think about when you make your mind up on qty.

I can't think of a time when you'd ever need more than 2 packs of lipo. I ran with just 1 pack for nearly 2 years without problems.

Wasn't sure whether having the larger capacity lipo would keep the punch longer through the run or does it not really make any difference on the capacity?

Isn't that more the discharge rate you are looking for?

Yes I suppose it is.

So capacity will make no difference, therefore it will be a higher C rating that I will want?

The punch is the C rating the mah is the length of time. You need no more that two sets of cells.

If you're running stock classes the higher capacity will also give you more punch.

6000mAh * 60C = 360A continuous discharge
5000mAh * 60C = 300A continuous discharge

Basically the above boils down to the higher capacity cells having less voltage drop when you apply a load (ie. accelerate)

Having said that, if you are running on slippy tracks it won't realy make much difference, the lower capacity cells might even be easier to handle...

As for brands out there they are all good although I am a bit partial to the Vampire Racing ones

+1 for the Vampire's, my 5400 60c saddles are excellent & at £72 are very reasonably priced
