Default sp2 diff in the vega

Hi,iv built a few ball diffs so know how to build them, but the problem im having with this is after about 3 meets,12 heats, the diff starts to bark,it starts off just when i pull off, then after a few more meets it will start to do it out the corners, its not done up as tight as it will go,but its as close as it can be,i sand my diff plates, use buds balls,AE diff and thrust grease,my slipper slips as it should,i run an LRP 8.5 octa......i run LRP SXX V2 on the lowest punch but run a 22 pinion on the std spur, off the line my car is the slowest,i could understant if it were poping wheelies, would glueing the diff plates, upping the punch and going with a 24pinion help,

So, two problems..

1, Diff starting to slip after a few meetings? When you say it's done up to it's tightest do you actually mean that? It may be that you are crushing the balls into the plates and doing some damage from the start. After the initial run do you recheck tightness? As soon as a ball diff starts to slip it'll start tearing itself up.

2, it's slow off the line? I think you are undergeared. I run 26/78 on a 6.5 so you'd want to be at least on this unless you are on a very small indoor track?

Kev

Hi Kev,i didnt say its done up to its tightest so im sorry if thats how you read it,its between as tight as the manual and its tightest if you know what i mean,

i thought the less teeth, the quicker its off the line and slower top speed,

i thought it might be putting to much bottom end grunt,if thats correct why is it slow off the line

Sorry, I miss read that!

Sometimes motors just like to be geared a bit higher. In theory you are right but it doesn't always work like that if you are way out. You may need to up your punch aswell. If it's a current limiter like on the Tekin then I just run mine at 90% just to take the edge off.

You should gave plenty of scope to gear up, but to be on the safe side keep an eye on temps on your first run.

thanks kev,iv changed the pinion and uped the punch,it was even worse in the back garden on mini pins,iv put mini spikes on and iv slowly nipped it up by putting something through the diff hole and turning the wheel,i have to say that it was probably nearly half turn of the wheel before the bark went,i backed it off till it came back then just niped it up a smidge........holy crap its like an F1 car off the line now
