Need to decide..b44 or b4rs

Wanting to get into the off road scene but having trouble deciding whether to go 2wd or 4wd. I'm thinking 2wd will be more fun but as I'm a beginner the 4wd setup maybe the easier route to take. Any suggestions ?

as a beginner 4wd will be much easier for you to control. 4wd can also be more fun as power slides etc are far easier with 4wd! (although not the fastest way round the track!)
Main thing is to check out your local club and see what is most popular. If everyone runs 2wd but only 2 guys have 4wd then obviously you will get better racing from 2wd.

hi there mate! 2wd is probably the more common choice of racing, although 4wd seems to be on its way back up...

id say go for a 2wd car, less maintenance, less demanding on your batteries and other equipment etc etc.

if you have a rough idea of budget? then many people will be able to advise on what is best to buy, some people may even be selling stuff in the "for sale" section on here....

tell us what you want from the car and a rough budget to spend and most will point you in the right direction.

I want to spend about £200 on the kit and then perhaps another £100-£150 on gear needed. I was also going to consider the Lazer ZX5. I've had some people tell me 2wd and others 4wd.

Get 2wd. Easier to setup, less to break, easier maintenance and it teaches you throttle control.

The B4 FT is a great car, if you get the new one with the plastic chassis.

This is quite a bit cheaper but you dont get all the optional extras you may want.

The B4 FT 2008 spec, check it has a plastic chassis and you can't go far wrong with it, plus it's £30 cheaper than your link

Remember you will need a controller, three sets of crystals for club racing, cells, speedo and a motor.
If you are on a budget i would suggest buying second hand.

first of all... do you think you will prefer a "sticks" style transmitter or a "steerwheel" type?

secondly, if your new, a 5.5 will probably be too fast, no offence id say go for a 7.5 or a 6.5 tops.... i use a 6.5 in both my cars and they are rapid!!!

also check out some second hand stuff before you buy new, it ma save you a fortune

what about this to start you off.... its a B4 but more of a basic kit.. (less fancy expensive parts such as the titanium turnbuckles, blue bits that you dont really need ete etc)

Quite a few people have told me to not get the RTR kits.

It depends how you want the car to be. The RTR is a good car for beginners and club racers, you probably wont go any worse than if you had an all singing all dancing FT B4 until you start improving, but you may want better equipment in yours, therefore the FT B4 is a perfect car. A 5.5 will be way too fast, most of us run 6.5's and thats with several years experience. I would suggest a 7.5 tops. If you are planning to race it you will need 2-3 battery packs, which if you are just club racing wait for the cells to be sold on here as most of us national racers will be buying new ones for this season.

I have to agree that the b4 ft is perfect because, if for some strange reason you don't like it. It will be alot easier to shift high end gear on than the rtr stuff.

Never heard of the charger, just on a search it will do up to 5 amps, so thats fine.
Radio gear ive never used
Novak motors are probably the best out at the moment. The speedos are good, but i run lrp speedos.

(ive heard) The Novak Velocity light 5.5 is supposedly the same as a LRP/Nosram 6.5 so should be ok. Someone may want to confirm this though.

the novak 5.5L is quite a bit quicker than a Nosram 6.5, but is soo smooth its easier to drive with
