Default Speed Passion or Team Orion ESC

Hi Guys,

Time for new ESC for my FS2 but not sure what to go for.

I been running LRP for good few years but decided there better stuff on the market with better option settings to get smoother throttle settings on the car & using PC's

Now I have been looking at the two not sure what to go for, have few questions.

What the warranty like?
Are they reliable?
Which has better options for setup?
Anything else I should consider.

I'm running SP V3 Motor 6.5t too.

The two Speedo's looking at are

Speed Passion 2.1 Pro
Team Orion Vortex R10

Thanks

Rob, that is a super easy one for you ... HobbyWing ExRun V2.1 120A .. £90 and the speedo that the Speed Passion 2.1 Pro is based on.

Follow the link in my sig, mate ... will e-mail you later!

The best brushless ESC I've ever come across (certainly now I've updated to the V3 119MMOD software!!!)

SP is the "copy" .... or at more specifically HobbyWing make the ESCs for SP as an OEM.

How do they look naff? Plain black or shiny blue (which is close to Kyosho blue mate).

I honestly can not see a way of justifying nearly 50% extra to get the Speed Passion! Even if you want to have the LCD programmer / PC interface option it's still under £120 combined for the top spec esc.

Sorry I've not mailed you yet bud, been busy but I will. Happy to let you have a trial of my ESC if that will help convince you!

Ah i didn't see the blue one now thats better......

Black one just looks cheap lol.

So you still have to buy everything etc for ESC

Anyways anyone got any feedback on the Team Orion R10 too?

You'll need a good supply of drive shafts and hex cups at the wheel end on the rear as the droop on the original kit was too greater angle and they used to eat shafts and drive cups like marshmallows.

Sorry for the derail.

Anyone using the Xerun 60A V2.1 for 13.5T Boosted in TC ?

What about the same ESC for Astro / Carpet in 2WD buggy ? Motor limit ?

If you buy from Racers In Exile I am sure Stuart would (with your permission of course) open the box and check the software level, update as requested.

All you need to be FULLY adjustable is the ESC @ £90 and the LCD program box / PC interface @ £20 (which obviously you will only have to buy one of no matter how many ESCs you have).
The LCD program box lets you access all features, allows you to access 3 stored profiles (so you can change from a super punch dry set up to a super smooth wet set up in just 3 button pushes) and gives you all the descriptions so you don't have to remember what option 21 actually does!

I have run 60A ESCs in 2wd with 6.5 motors. Lasted a year until the big jumps at Ardent upset the Speed Passion motor and one phase went high resistance and killed the ESC.
I'd say there was enough safety margin to run with a 7.5 without fear at all. Obviously that is without using TURBO features at all, if you want to do that I'd keep it to 8.5 or more!

These days I just run the 120A ESC in all buggies and the Xtreme Stock in TC, both run 100% perfectly and stay super cool too.

As for the colours I deliberately went for the black ones as I think they look cleaner and smarter than the blue. I've never really been a fan of the blue that is common in RC, much prefer a classy looking black / gun-metal finish personally ... we are all different though!
(Think how cool the black will look in an FS2-SP with all that dark anodising mate )

I drove Ellis Kyosho FS2 at Oswestry National all day with the Orion R10 in It is super smooth but without loosing any of the punch and high speed - and boy does it have some high speed - I just loved it - by the way make note that most speed controllers like HobbyWing are 120A -the Orion R10 is 160A.....claasy look too in my opinion........

You need to wire the ESC power leads to link it up to the program box. When I sell any speed passion ESC's I update the firmware trackside for people if requested, or send the program box out with the speedo on the understanding that it's returned back to me.
