what do you guys use to cover spur/pinion in Vega? It might not be a problem on astro, but grass tracks usually contain all sort of small stones, wood chunks etc that can damage the spur.

Nothing... apart from the odd bit of gravel/sand its never been a problem.

the reason I am asking is because I experienced extremely small gravels sticking (!) in between spur teeth resulting in very unpleasant noise.

TBH, I just flick sand/gravel out with a small flat bladed screwdriver if it gets stuck. (same as on my old cougar)

There is a pic on here of a 201 vega that has had a spur gear cover put on it as he was using a non vega shell, all he had to do was drill and tap a hole in the motor mount to use the cover.

You could try spinning the b4 original gear cover and re-alligning your holes on motor plate?
