Default Considering 2wd

Hi all
I am considering changing from my b44 to 2wd & would like your opinions on the following cars i am thinking of getting
Tamiya tfr 201
Schumacher cougar sv
Associated B4.1
Durango dex210, ok i know this isn't out yet but if any of the top drivers who have 1 has any advice on it i would appreciate it
Not interested in the losi or kyosho
Do Associated have any new models in the pipeline?
I will be mainly racing on astro at Stotfold with the odd trip to the herts club & the regionals next year
Would like a car that takes saddle lipo's as i really don't want to have to go get new batteries
Cheers in advance
Gainsy

Why change mate, just run both!

I cant offer you any advice for two reasons, 1 - you have ruled out the Ultima RB5 already, and 2 - barring a morning of testing at MA I have barely driven it as I have focused on the B44.1 for now.

What I can say though, is that on that said morning it just worked. As much as I love my B44.1 it has been a constant effort tweaking things to get it so that it is driveable. Whilst Im sure that in order to win with the RB5 some set up changes would in time be necessary, I just put it together, dropped it on the track and it worked very well.

And if you are going to do regionals next year then they are held on different weekends for 2wd and 4wd so you can run in both!

All are good cars in their own right, the only way to decide is to try them for yourself and see what suits your driving style.

As far as the Durango is concerned, my bro absolutely loves it. First time out with the car and he was pushing Hupo for the win at the oople race - he actually only received the car on the Wednesday before the meeting! Given the price and how competitive it seems straight from the box, it looks like it's going to be a car to beat

Mate i would love to do both, but being a single parent with 2 young kids & a stupidly small budget i can only afford to go 1 way, unless i win the euro jackpot this week then i will have all of them

From that list, the B4.1 makes the most sense since you have a B44 already and there is a degree of parts compatability.

The B4.1 also has mid-motor conversions available if you are that way inclined (and I know a lot of people like the mid-motor cars in high-grip conditions like astro and green grass). Really good parts availability and setup knowledge.

The TRF201 is a metric copy of a B4, the parts fit and quality of Tamiya is better than Thunder-Tiger-Associated, but parts are not as easy to get, and there is only one mid-motor conversion around.

The Cougar SV runs well on high-grip, not so good on lower grip, and I have some concerns about parts quality.

The Durango looks very impressive, the best mid-or-rear-motor design yet, but until it is in the hands of normal drivers we won't know what it is really like.

A saddle will fit in the same space as a stick pack so you shouldn't have any problems.

PS If money is tight... the cheapest car is the car you already have.

I can understand that mate. I would love to have a go with my RB5 at a meeting but I would say that I have spent about £500 on the B44.1 since it was built just stocking up on things like tyres, wheels, whishbones, and other odds and sods needed to go to the races and get through the day.

Whilst my 2wd is built and has full electrics, I just dont have the money at the moment to buy all the necessary spares and accessories for it as well at the moment so I am just sticking with one class until I can afford to stock up all the bits and bobs for my 2wd.

What is making you fancy the change to 2wd rather than sticking with your B44?

Yeah i would prefer a mid engine, i used to run my old cougar like that & it handled great
It certainly would make good sense to run a B4 with the parts being similar & the tools aspect to consider as well, save me changing back from imperial to metric
Think i will see what the guys at stotfold are running & maybe see if i can try a few of them out first before making a decision

bear in mind that the DEX210 and the TLR 22 both provide mid & rear setups out of the one kit.

The B4.1 & TRF201 both need you to spend £150+ to convert on top of the kit.

The Cougar is already mid motored.

My advice in your position - DEX210.

Thanks Andy
I didn't realise it would cost me that much to convert the b4 over to mid engine that's a lot on top of a new car
Appreciate the input pal

If you're on a budget have you looked at the Ansmann range, I know they have the Skoda thing with their name but the pro kits are meant to be surprisingly good...

I can't offer any direct advice though, sorry, I do 8th Nitro which is no use to you at all...
