Question Spring Paint

This is for anyone that's removed the paint from shock springs...

What did you use???

How long did it take???

What do you now use to quickly identify the different rates???

Nitromors paint stripper.

its evil stuff, don't get it on anything - it'll burn skin, and the fumes hurt eyes. It'll literally melt anything but the metal.

If you hang your springs on string and dangle them in, you should be able to make it melt all but the colour on the first coil.

Or you can cut 5mm of coloured tubing (off wire) and wind it up the coil. I do this on cut springs so not to confuse them with uncut (I have done it)

I use automotive black matt paint, very fine mist and mask up the last coil. Stays on through quite a bit of abuse if you scotchbrite the spring first

Back in the day of the CAT2000 EC, it was done to create a slightly lighter spring rate.

But I'm doing it to simply mask the make of spring being used.

Shane, some say the paint actually stiffens the spring, and others do it so others cant see what they are using

Not sad, just why promote/advertise a product that's not made by your main sponsor.

Plus the colours really don't go with my paint scheme

If you ask anyone, then they'll tell you. if they don't tell you then you've found somebody who belongs in TC, I reckon you tell them that too...

That's why i sprayed mine, not just so the car looked pretty, although others would question that

100% correct, it has happened to me in touring cars as well, the driver in question actually dipped all his springs black to put everyone off also, that was super sad

Easiest way is to place over a gas ring on low setting and the plastic melts off.
To identify springs you can purchase coloured plastic sleeve from angling shops they use to identify Flys in Fyl Fishing.
