Default My new Emaxx aluminium chassis

Been driving my truggy a lot last summer, the maxx felt like it would roll to easy when I went back to it. So the new chassis is to:

-Get the weight low
-Extend the wheelbase to 360mm
-Allow the 6S lipo to be fitted ( I was using NIMH last year)
-Important one this, have the diff easily accessable, I want to be able to get the prop shafts in and out of the truck quickly without taking the front and/or rear ends off the chassis OR changing the pinion mesh.
-Be lighter than the last chassis.

I took some inspiration from the UE razorback chassis, you will see the similarities.

Main chassis plate is 4mm thick, milled to 2mm in some areas.

the top "deck" is 6mm thick, I cut this from a plate by hand, it took days.

these are to hold the diff, they were hard to make as they have to be perfect, easy with a cnc machine, not so easy for me. They are sided and keyed so they slot together only one way.

Motor mount is 8mm thick, 2 x M4 from under the chassis and an M3 through the top deck.

Underside of the chassis, recesses for the skids.

Spine on and motor mount, also the backs of the diff mounts, they are held in place from the other side by 2 screws.

Diff in and tighten up. The spur pulls away form the motor on disassembly so the motor can remain in place with mesh undisturbed.

rear in place

recesses here for the straps to be clamped.

tight for space here, servo mount and esc tray. Also note the slight recess on the top deck for the motor, it sits as close as physically possible to the centre line and 0.5mm from the chassis.

fixings to the bulks.

All together

lipo trays installed, 3s on each side.

That does look awesome!!

Are you not worried about bending though?... You have no breakpoints on that thing at all...things will just start to bend, eventually

Damn fine work though, looks damn sexxy.

well problem with making one offs by hand is they are time consuming and so expensive. No doubt a cnc machine could knock it quick, but then your restricted by having to do a run of them to keep costs down. So yes I could make you one but yes it would be very expensive as it was about 30 hours work.

Dude, that is friggin' amazing...you did an awesome job, some of the best work I have ever seen! I mean, I absolutely love the UE Razorback, and wish I had 1 of the "rumored" 9 that were completed, but I converted 100% to brushless a long time ago, so your e-Razorback just made my jaw hit my keyboard!!!

Seriously man, that thing is crazy-nice, and you did some amazing fabricating! If you didn't tell anyone, EVERYONE would think it was fully CNC-Machined by a Professional!

I work with a lot of Carbon-Fiber, but I am in the process of buying a nice vertical-mill and a nice flat-bed lathe, both of which will either start out as CNC, or will get converted to CNC as soon as possible. I have degrees in both Civil & Mechanical Engineering, with tons of experience in CAD, SolidWorks, and a few others, so I hope I can learn on a steeper, faster curve! I have so many ideas, drawings, sketches, etc., I need to get them out of my mind & off of paper and into real, working parts & pieces!

Anyway, I am a HUGE UE/Supermaxx fan/builder, and here is my latest project...a Lightning Chassis, VBS, Racer-X FULL-BLOWN Supermaxx (New Lightning Chassis, Like-New Latest-Version VBS w/ Ti Skids & VBS Bumpers, New 8-Spider Diffs, New 16mm Racer-X w/ New Setbacks & New Single-Shock Hi-Impacts, New Supershocks, New 8mm Titanium CVDs, New GenIV Servo-Saver, New Ultramaxxed Gears in a New FLM Half-Case w/ New Gorillamaxx Single-Speed Conversion Kit & New TRX Aluminum Shafts, New Strobe Slipper w/ New Peek Hi-Temp Pads, New Strobe Sprong, New UE 51T Steel Spur, New Ti Center Dog-Bones & New Drive-Cups, Like-New UE Split-6 Wheels, New Pro-Line Bow-Tie MTR Tires, New Diemaker-Dave Wing-Mount, Mugen-Seiki MBX-5T Wing-Stays & JConcepts Wing, New Acer Racing Full-Ceramic Ball-Bearings, New Tony's Screws, but soon switching to New GA Blue 12.9 Grade Screws, New "Traxxas Version" Black CC/New 2200kV BL Motor, New CC MMM ESC, 2x New Zippy Flightmax 2S 40C 5000mAh LiPos, New Hitec Steering Servo, New SR300 Spektrum DSM Rx...soon to be a Pro SR3500, New Spektrum DX3.o Tx, New PROTOform HardDrive Revo 3.3 Body that I need to paint...I think that's it, heh)!

WOW, your engineering skills are amazing, and all that with no CNC in site.

I have a mill and lathe myself, but id never be able to make parts as good as that.

Love the robot too, i can see how it took you over a year to build.
