Default pinion size help please

Hi, im building up a Tamiya 416x to race but i dont know what size pinion to use .. its got a 105 gear and im using a 13.5 novak motor.

someone suggested a 38 pinion and that would make the overall gear ratio about 5.68 they said.

Let me know if you use a tamiya 416x and might be able to help.

Thanks in advance Dan

It depends a great deal on what speed controller (and settings) you are using and to an extent on which motor (and settings) you are using.

If the speedo is a "zero timing" model then that would probably be a safe gear ratio. If the speedo is an "advanced timing" model then that ratio would probably kill the motor in two minutes!

More info needed!

Hi Dan

I used to run 38/100 on a 13.5 LRP X12 indoors on polished wood with my 416x. Your ratio sounds good to me. Just check the motor and speedo temp after 5 mins racing and make sure its not higher than 70c maximum. My speedo is an LRP SXX stock spec v3
