Default Hobbywing/Speedpassion delay on startline?

I've got three different Hobbywing Xerun esc's, one 120a, one 60a and an Xtreme stock one. I've used the first two for over a year and they're generally great. Occasionally though at the start of a race they will have a slight delay, not much, maybe a second or two before the cars move. Even if I've driven to the start line.

The new Xtreme stock one seemed fine last week, but tonight at the start of my final it cost me pole down to fifth place because of the delay!

Now all esc's have had more than one version of firmware on them which hasn't fixed them. Currently the newest mod firmware's (as of a couple of weeks ago anyway) on all three esc's.

My radio gear's recently changed from a Futaba 3GR to a 3VCS (just to go 2.4) and that's made no difference.

I generally use Speedpassion V3 motors (7.5 and 8.5), but am currently using a Losi Xcelorin 8.5

Sensor wires have been changed too.

Any ideas, and does it happen to anybody elses??!

One thing I have read is that if you have reverse enabled, that can cause a delay off the startline. Does that apply to you?

Otherwise, I would consider rolling back the firmware to one of the older versions, perhaps 205MOD.

I have the same problem, I also find it happens if you use reverse and therefore roll up to my grid position (normal 8th lol).. and because I haven't reversed I don't get the delay off the line next time I hit the throttle...

I haven't tried it without reverse as I'm still a rubbish driver but will have to now, I'm also using new version of software..

Scott..

I haven't experienced not moving after driving, or a delay off the start line, but when first switched on, I have experienced the pause you mention. I have also come to a complete stand still sometimes during a race where reverse kicks in when you brake quickly (twice) diving on to the inside line. I understand why reverse try's to kick in, and I'm positive that problem would go away if I run forward only, but for club racing, reverse is useful. However, I would have thought the ESC would not reverse unless all wheels and therefore motor were sensed as stationary (I'm sure even the early GTB's had this interlock type arrangement)

Q) Are you definitely awake, and listening for the beep?

As for you going from pole to fifth Mike, I see nothing unusual apart from you being on pole in the first place. (on a more serious note, the Durango is obviously performing well!)

There are alot of hw's at faversham (probably 70% of the club ) and they all do it when in reverse mode
Only when going from reverse to forward .... Weird
Turned off rev and fine

It's a delay built in to help prevent overloading your cars transmission with a sudden torque reversal.
As reverse is not legal for racing (because you could reverse into the path of another car ruining their run) it is not something I have ever experienced personally but I have seen it happen.

The delay at switch on is a system check, especially of the sensor system, better safe than sorry.

Does anyone know where this rule is written down, only I tried searching for it on the BRCA site a while back and could find nothing?

I couldn't find anywhere in the rules to say it wasn't legal Daz. When I used mine loads at regionals, MAM, etc I was never told off for it even when race control said "stop showing off just because you have reverse" on the PA... I have also asked race control a few times if it was allowed and never been told no.

I know other classes say it must have reverse (Mardave I think) and there was another class it wasn't allowed which I can't remember. Nothing about it in 1/10th off road though.

The only time I've been told to turn it off was at PDA for that 1 off meeting in Feb '10 which I assumed because it was running it's own rules not BRCA.

I turned mine off because I sometimes found the car would stop dead in the middle of corners. I put it down to reverse kicking in. Now it's turned off I haven't had a problem since.

i would almost certainly put it down to this.

ps. I filmed the 1st half of your final last night Michael (had to go get my car ready at the 3min announcement)

If it is there, it doesn't work particularly well in certain scenarios.. But I believe you are right that there is an intentional delay, and the instructions state that you have to pull the stick back twice to get reverse.

Just minor problems that I guess can be fixed in a software update.

Turn reverse off, it's crap for racing, and annoying other cars on the track.

If it's not banned yet it should be.

It's banned at TORCH with the exception of the "novice" heat. It's banned due to numpties reversing into traffic..

Must remind people of it again.

I am 99% sure it used to be in the rules but it seems to be missing in the current rules. I stand corrected!!

Still REALLY bad practice in my mind though!

I noticed this on a firmware upgrade. I think I fixed it by changing 4. Start mode (Punch) from 7 to 9 (the max).

I can't find the kind of smiley I'm looking for for you Daz so one of these will have to do.......

The Rango's going well, but I was back in my normal qualifying position yesterday..........pole in the B! (Q'd 6th overall which is normally 6th in the A, but we only had 5 in it last night).

Mine paused on the corner by the mat a couple of times last week, that must've been the same thing then. I don't really want to turn reverse off because it's very handy and as long as you're sensible with it it's not dangerous, but I'll have to try it without now.

Get the vid up somewhere G, it would be good to see what my 'driving' looks like!

Video is coming on nicely.

It's sort of a little club promo

I added some things like "takedown" when you smacked Jamie, but it looks a bit gay lol

I'd like some incar footage, but not sure if I should strap the iphone4 to my car...
