When your brushed motor is on it's way out, will it start running slower or just pack up? (trying to work out why my mini's speed has decreased so much over the past two meets)

![]() Fortunately I can't clean the brushes (last time tried that busted a motor) as is a sealed can motor (HPI 20t Saturn) Gonna run some fastrax motor cleaner through it tonight to see if that makes any diff. Sadly don't have a comm lathe so can't skim the motor either ![]()

Sealed can saturn's are good motors and you can't skim them (as they're sealed...) Has it done alot of runs? I know some that've run for nearly a year without bother.
Motor cleaner can't do it any harm, I suppose. Just use lots as it'll be hard to get any debris out through either end. And lube the bearings up after!

heres a tip i got off a pro get a jug of warm slightly soapy water and connect a battery direct to the motor what you wana do is submerge the motor fully under the water and hold it there for 3mins rince the motor and then change the water this time with no soap and do it again for 2mins.(saturns have internal fans so do splash alittle)
this is what pros do to wear there 540 motors in but also this cleans most of the crud off the com and brushes.when you have done that dry it off and spray the bushings with some gt85 or wd40 make sure you dont get any inside though. i also get some cotton buds and wet them and press them agains the com and turn it(works best with a pinion on) to get the rest of the crud off. this should revive the motor and its even made a few of my 540 motors faster if it doenst then its shot.

Saw a vid on youtube a while back, some american lad, connecting a regular AA batt to the motor wires and doing just that.
Had heard about this trick, just couldn't get my head around the whole electric product being cleaned in a cup of water....just felt wrong Having said that, will defo give it a go tomorrow night, be interesting to see what's left inside ![]() Cheers again

i was told to use 6v but i used a 7.2v stick pack using an aa battery cant spin it fast enough to do anything.( i dont think anyway) + ive never had any problems just hold the battery not the motor and submerge the wires so the motor is about 1cm - 2cm under the water.prob chuck a tea towel over to to stop splashing.

cleaning the motor like that works well, if you keep it submerged for more than 10 or 20 seconds though you will damage your brushes, they wear very quickly when wet. really they should be replaced after cleaning underwater. if you cant get your head round electrics and water mixing, consider this, water isnt actually that good a conductor, what it does is greatly reduce the resistance of any surface it is in contact with. i used to use 4.8 volts, spray with motor cleaner, dunk (just clean water) then motor cleaner again and reoil motor

nearly forgot, there was a young lad at the club with a hpi ready to run truck the other week, his sealed can motor (20t) lasted 2 races third race it slowed down and stopped. sealed can motors are generally a waste of time and money and are often not as powerful as their open brushed counterpart. try a 19 turn spec motor instead and you wont go too far wrong

You can get a comm stick in through the venting holes to clean the com.
I used to use one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TB2068-Trickbi...item230a6d1cad file an angle on the comm end to suit the angle needed to sit on the armature.
