Default PT's for Nationals?

Finally getting round to doing my nationals entry and just looked at the form and where it asks for PT Number it says "mandatory". This has probably been said before but does that mean there will be no handouts and Im gonna have to finally take the plunge and buy a PT?

You'll need one that's compatible with the AMB system.

New AMB (Sorry MyLaps) ones are about £72
New MRT ones are about £45 ish I think?
2nd hand...Depends how lucky you get really!

Most rediculous amount of money for what they are in material terms, but for the joy of the sport you just need to dig deep

Why the price difference in MRT and AMB? Are the MRT ones just as good?

the amb ones are normally a little larger, except for the new Harry ones, and are made by the same people who make most of the systems, the mrt are normally a little smaller. I have use both the amb in my 8th and the mrt in the 10th and have had no trouble with either, i will say that the mrt ones come with the ability too change the transponder number though if it ever happens that someone has the same number as you.

As said, the AMB ones are the official ones to match the timing system, they are made by the same people as make the timing system. All come with totally unique ID numbers, so you never clash numbers anywhere.

MRT are "compatible" ones, made by someone else. As standard they all come with the same 20 numbers on them, so you can choose which number to use if you get a clash with someone else using a standard MRT one in your heat.

MRT will also take your AMB PT, if you have one, and clone the number onto one of their PT's for you, so you can have 2 PT's with the same ID number on. This means that you don't need to use one of their 20 default numbers and it helps keep booking in and managing your PT's simple if you have more than 1 car/race 2 classes.

Not owned one of the MRT's myself, but heard nothing but good things about them.

Actually the MRT's all have the same 20 numbers AND a 'unique' number which is the default one. AFAIK the 'unique' number isn't really unique, as MRT only have a limited number of codes to work from, but I can't find any clashes in the database for the North-West region so there can't be that many PT's using that number. If you do get a clash, you switch to one of the 20.

Also worth pointing out that sometimes used cloned MRT's appear for sale. So even owners of 2nd hand Mylaps/AMB transponder could in theory find they clash with someone using an AMB clone of their bug. In that case the AMB owner can select 1 of the 20 optional numbers.

If u order a clone mrt they clone ur amb pt number which u have to own.
So my mrt has my own amb number which will not be on any other mrt other than any I order. Then I have plus 20 so I can swap to fox other racers watching my practice times.

If you order an mrt you get 20 random numbers

once you have brought a mrt version you wont look back either you can lengthen the wire or even shorten the wires to your spec to fit your car and they give of a better signal to

The 20 numbers are the same for every MRT Pt. I have two and the sheet you get is pre printed with just the personal number written on by hand.

The pre installed numbers are the numbers of 20 AMB PT's that MRT actually own so will never appear at any meeting.

Love both mine .

Yes, and for the Cloned MRT's, that personal number is the same number as your AMB/Mylaps PT.

But you can also get what they call 'Custom' MRT's. These also have the identical 20 numbers, and they also have a handwritten 'personal' number. Now where this magic number comes from, and how actually 'personal' it is I don't know, but no 2 MRT customs I've seen have had the same one, so there must be a good few numbers, even if its not really unique.

If you want MRT to clone a pt for you, do you need to send the pt you already have off to them, or do you just tell them the number of it?

Yep, first time you need to send them the PT.

After that you can just order extra clones.
