Default Best B4 Beginner Motor and ESC?

Looking to get into off road racing. I want my electrics to be easy to driveto start with but not need replacing straight away as my experience grows so...

If I get myself a used B4, should I replicate the RTR motor and ESC...

(The RTR has a 3300kv Reedy motor and an XP SC 450-BL ESC)

or go for one of the other options Reedy do? There is also a 3900kv, 1900kv and a 6100kv, all the same price at £102.

What effect will these other motors have, faster, but harder to drive in terms of top speed and my reactions!

How come these Reedys aren't given a Turn T rating like 9.5T, 10.5T etc?

Any other smooth performing, beginner ESC and Motor combos I could look at for the same price or preferably a bit less!

The Reedy motors are sensorless so don't quite match the turn ratings of sensored motors.
Based on the speed of the RTR B4.1s at our club the 3300 motor is somewhere between a 10.5 & a 13.5.
The higher the Kv rating the more powerful, whereas the higher the turn rating the less powerful it is.

Although the Reedy setups seem good if I was buying motor and speedo setup I would look for a good sensored setup and make sure it can handle up to a 6.5 - you're not going to use one that fast but it'll save you upgrading the esc in the future. I would get a 10.5 to start out with.

The Losi Excelorin S combos are good value for money and I've been running them fault free for a couple of years now. They sometimes crop up for sale cheaply as they are unpopular compared to LRP & Speed Passion, etc.

Can recommend the Speed Passion LPF speedo for 2wd.
Get a cheapo motor to go alongside it, (probably a 2nd hand 8.5 or 10.5 sensored motor) and your good to go! This is just an alternative to petes suggestion mind.

Hope this helps.

I've just bought a second hand tekin rs pro and a lrp x11 8.5t from ebay for a little more cash. These should keep me going for a while. I had been watching ebay for a while though. The tekin rs seems to show up regularly on ebay and would be worth a look.

Stupid question but why not just get a RTR model?. They are pretty quick in standard form.

I'm just think that I'd have to replace more sooner going the RTR route, but maybe I'm wrong.

If I started with RTR would I then need to change the ESC when I want to get a better motor in there, and the RTR radio doesn't have so many features to geek around with.

If I get a good used B4 for around £100, get a good radio and good ESC thats a bit future proof, maybe not such a fast motor to start with, that might last me longer as my starter kit.

The ease of RTR is temping though, rather than buying separate bits, which would be more expensive, but I'd be left with better components I thought?

I think this way is best. I've chosen the same route myself by sourcing everything second hand. I have a nice set up and have saved a small fortune.
