Default Household Waste Recyling

Just found myself cutting the top and bottom from an empty peanut container so that the metal and cardboard can go there different ways. Wanted to just bin it but I couldn't even after a few glasses of the old vino. Thank God for the spell checker

Can recall separating a other items in a similar way so they can be recycled

DO YOU DO IT?

Where is "yes I do, but I get fed up with having two wheelie bins, two plastic boxes and two bags full of different types of plastic, card/paper rubbish sitting around for the bi weekly collections..." option. I don't know where some house holds find to put these things.

To add a bit more, the following is provided by the council to recycle, a grey bin, a green bin, a blue box with a cover, a red box with a divider, a big blue bag, an orange netting bag.

If you want to see what our council expect us to do, have a ganders at this tacky video...

I'd say "No" and "Can't be bothered" are the same thing. I'm an opportunist recycler, If there's a recycle bin handy it goes in, if not then I don't bother.

I'm also like MRD, I won't go out of my way to get to the recycling bin just to put a piece of cardboard ( or anything else ) in it.

I do in Cardiff, we have green bags for carboard, tins, plastics and glass, household waste wheelie bin, green garden waste for garden and waste food. It isn't much to do, and if it helps preserve natural resources, cool.

Don't think I would if it was complicated though.

I do, but the brown bin for beer cans is full after a couple of days of being emptied. Then it all goes in the black one.

I recycle everything I can. The landfills are not a never ending place to get rid of our old stuff, and the earth is not a never ending supply of stuff, so if we all did out little bit it would make a big difference.

Default Recycling

Have moved to Belgium from the UK and there is a lot less recycling.
After years of distributing our waste between the relevant boxes it feels wrong not having the option.

When I was living/working in Japan there were 11 different recycling boxes in the offices - nobody could tell me what went in what!

So your saying you take all your rubbish home from race meetings and recycle in the propper bins?

At home the right things go in the right bin but when I'm out it goes in the same bin unless there is a recycle bin handy. How does this make me a "selfish turd"????

Our waste collections are in a league of their own.

OK, we have four bins; Glass/Plastic, Cardboard, General Waste and Garden/Food.

The Garden/Food bin is emptied each week, great, however it's never more than 1/3rd full, even in the summer during lawnmower time.

The others are empted every fortnight and are always over flowing. It's crazy, we're ok as there's three of us living in the house but imagine if you had 2 young kids...? If the lid doesn't close of course it doesn't get collected.

SMBC I salute you.

It doesn't, don't get the hump mush. I was merely pointing out that that the human race in general is selfish by nature, which is why our planet is a bit of a shit hole

Struggling to see how us separating rubbish helps anything other than preventing someone else doing it?

I always saw it as something that was down anyway elsewhere and now has been put ou way

I do agree with your comments about us all doing a bit - though I kinda feel I'm getting short changed on my council tax so it bugs me!!

brown bin for garden waste x 2weeks
plastic sack for plastic x 2 weeks
plastic sack for metal x 2 weeks
small green bin for food waste every week
blue bin for glass x 2weeks
and now they are going to send us a bloody big black bin for house waste to be collected every 2 weeks instead of 1 week as of now. And we are informed that from next week they will be collecting everthing on the same day.
Dont know about this close the lid or it doest go thing but that to me means someone will end up fly tipping as they cannot be arsed going to the local tip.
Also need to point out if councils dont meet their recycling targets they will be fined so if they get fined who do they pass it on to? YOU in next years rates bill, so it helps yourself to do your bit.

Down our way, we have 2 bins, yup, just 2. one with a grey lid for "normal" crap, the green lidded one is for recycling, simple. The amount of bins some of you guys have would just piss me off no end
