Anyone in Greater Manchester that could assist newbie please?

Hi Guys,

Loving this forum, I really am.

During the past 48 hours i've scanned all 20 pages re the Mad rat.

Now, i'm going to buy myself a Mad rat kit as i'm really keen on it. Problem is, i'm a little scared about tackling the ball diff/transmission construction. I feel i'll be fine on everything else, as i'm a newbie who's done a fair bit of work/upgrading on an rtr Rustler VXL.

On this note; I wonder, is there anybody located within 15 miles of Oldham whom could give me an helping hand should I struggle? I'd pay of course.

I was also a little worried about the whole thing but find that the instructions you get are clear and well done and as long as you can follow them it all will work out for ya without help I think

Contact JEspares in Middleton, they're very close to Oldham, are great stockists of anything Ansmann (plus everythign else RC ofcause).

Better still, ask for Stu Wood (he works at JE), he is a team driver for Ansmann and im pretty sure won't mind helping you out... you'll also find him at Bury Metro.

I should be building a spare ball diff for my car in the next couple of days. I don't claim to be nay kind of expert, but my stock XPro diff has now done three race meetings a good couple of hours running in practice and is still as smooth as can be.

Would it be of help to people if I did a step by step photo guide to how I do it?

It's probably a bit late now, but I've just blogged a step-by-step guide to how I build diffs. I'm not any expert by any means, but this approach has given me a stock Ansmann diff that's lasted four race meetings and quite a lot of practice before needing a rebuild, and has just gone back together with all of the original parts intact and minimal signs of wear.

I decided to buy the rtr brushed model, as it came with 2.4Ghz radio gear and seemed like a bargain.

@Woody- I'll be sourcing all of my spares from you, so I really appreciate your kind offer mate. Are you on the same rd as the Harlequin takeaway? Nice & handy, as you're only 10 min's drive away.

Well Guys; DHL eventually got around to delivering it today and i'm loving it.
In comparison to my Rustler VXL, the handling is superb. The Rustler is only any good for 60mph speed runs lol.
The car evidently needs ballracing, as the wheels only spin for a few seconds when spun at speed.
What other upgrade are " essential " for this if you would please?

bearings
alloy shock upgrade
Alu motor mount
Cf rear chassis plate
Alu wishbone mount F+R

Thanks Minke. I think this one of mine already comes with an Aluminium motor mount, if that's what it is? It also comes with a green Aluminium tie bar. I've hosted some images. Is the Green metal the motor mount? Cheers again.

Yup the green motor mount will do at least one of two things.

1 strip its threads. You can fix this by removing the slipper assembly and sending some counter-sunk bolts through from that side, then putting some lock nuts on the end and reassemble the slipper.

2 bending/buckling of the mount.
