Cheers

For all of this year I've been running a Novak 7.5 in 2wd.
(Here's a vid of it running: http://www.dublinmodelracing.com/video/navan_oct_07.wmv)

Very happy with it.

At the worlds we were running smaller wires on the speedo to reduce the power!

Cheers all, i think i'll give a 7.5 a go for now to try and improve my 2 wheel driving. Yes Wraggy, your car is always ballistic. i'll see how i go with this and then maybe step it up a bit to 6.5.
Thanks for all the advice

A lot of people seem to run 6.5's, but I'm starting to think it's the wrong way to go now. It seems to me when you go down in turns on brushless all you do is change the top speed, the acceleration up to top speed remains the same. Why exactly would you want your 2wd to have less top end speed than your 4wd? (Unless you're a big girl like Pidge, 6.5L!! )

IMO the 5.5L Novak will be really good in 2wd, I've been running a 6.5R in my B4 recently and I''ve been missing the top speed I used to get with my brushed setup, but trying to reduce it's low down torque.

i'm always of an opinion that anything lower than 6.5 is too much for 2wd, cos there is usually too much bottom end for a 2wd car to cope with. I've tried 6.5's, 5.5's and 7.5's in 2wd and to be fair, they all suit certain tracks. Best all rounder is the 6.5 for me.

pidge - smaller guage wire, explain??

Smaller guage wire has a higher resistance and so reduces the current to the motor, the usual thickness we use is huge though, so i'm not sure how much effect it really has, usually only makes a big difference when you start getting to almost filament size stuff that loses the electrical energy as heat in the wire.

The 'L' range of Novak motors have a lighter gauge of wire used internally on the windings, much the same as brushed motors use different gauge wire.
