I've just bought the Ansmann brushless combo and haven't even considered which pinion to use, any advice?

depends if you want speed or acceleration. Personally 23T pinion is a good starting point

Top speed isn't necessary, good acceleration is the goal.

Your pics arent showing. Never had a macnum myself but there should be plenty of space to fit the esc. Try to post em again.

I tried again and there is about 0.5mm in it but I can just squeeze it in:
It is an interference fit, the capacitor lead is in the wrong place! I'm beginning to think this isn't the one that comes with the RTR. Last edited by soane; 16-01-2011 at 11:26 AM. Reason: Addional text |

Yeah looks pretty tight, will it go another way round? The capacitor cant stay where it is now. I have my exceed in with good quality velcro, gives you a little extra height to play with.

Well after some fettling I managed to get the esc in:
It looks a whole lot tidier now! Now over to another problem, when it accelerates, for about a second there is a grinding noise that goes almost immediately, could the slipper be too loose? |

Your slipper clutch nut sure looks close to the end of the top shaft's threading. I would tighten it way more. Like atleast a turn. It should only slip for a few feet when giving full throttle on dirt.
Make sure your diff is tight enough too. Make sure not to overthighten thought. |

Agreed, this is accelerating on a grippy kitchen floor so I'd imagine there should be little or no noise? I think it best if I strip the 'box and rebuild it - I bought it complete.

Also, I still don't know how to use the programming card!

Right, time to wrap this up, the set-up instructions in the box are wrong, they're for the G2 esc (doh) and I've found the right ones on Ansmanns website as a pdf but they're in German - after using Babelfish I get the general idea of what's going on. Also I've been testing the car without the gear cover, as a consequence I didn't notice the motor pinion shaft is too long and fouls on the cover when tightened up (double-doh) so that needs seeing to - what an eventful day.

Well, if your tires are slipping, you should here a sound. But, if you say your kitchen has a grippy floor, yes you shouldn't hear much sound.
As for the programming card, go on the website. They must have a section where you can download manuals and stuff. |

When you get the alu motor mount, which is a very important upgrade the cover will fit just fine,

Off to TOP today with a shopping list it seems, I came down this morning to find two pools of oil beneath the front shocks I just bought an fitted. I'll order the motor mount and maybe the turnbuckles.
