Default Personal transponders

I just did my first race today and despite the SNOW!! it was great fun, I had warm coat and a hat and 4WD so the weather wasn't an issue, what was a pain in the arse was returning the club transponder after ever heat from my muddy wet car and rushing to marshal the next heat, which personal transponder do I buy and where is the best place to buy it from please ?

I believe that you can only buy an original AMB RC one (the red one). However when you have bought one, MRT do an excellent cloning service to make more than one for multiple cars.

Make sure your club is on the new amb system to run the red pts, otherwise you may need to get one of the older MRT transponders if it is the old system.

if the club's using AMBrc / AMB rc3 you can use this PTX from MRT which is user programmable from 1 to 10. Cheaper than the AMB PT

or this one if the club runs AMB20.

Yes it will. At least mine does

I have had zip trouble with my MRT transponder. Its smaller, it's black and it has a blue LED. Oh and it costs less.
I really don't like the way AMB are continuously raising the prices either!!!

cheers

Gaza,

You need to have a red amb PT in order to give mrt the number for the ptx, then you will have 2 pt`s with the same number.

You cannot have a ptx without having a pt as far as i am aware

It's not that confusing really. I got one with a custom number without having to have an AMBrc one cloned before.

I rang MRT before I bought it and they were super-helpfull about explaining it. Basically you have 21 numbers on the transponder which you can select. 20 of these are numbered 0-9 in two sets (like older transponder sets) and the 21st number is your personal custom number. In the incredibly unlikely event that you were at a race and someone had the same number personal transponder as you, you could just change the number to a free one.

You can do the math on it but it is highly(!) unlikely that you will bump into someone with the same number at a race!

The problem is potentially that AMB doesn't use consecutive numbers. They randomise within the 10 digit (i think) numbers band that are on the transponder.

I had a big think about it before I got one but realistically, the odds are worse than the national lottery that you will ever have to change the number

Had I mentioned that it is smaller, black, cheaper and has a blue LED
You can also change the backplate on it to have lugs or not and change the wires yourself!

AMBrc and MRT are working on the same band of numbers. There is a small possibility that they will have doubles sometime as they don't have a communal database of numbers.

The probability of you being at the same meeting with an MRT PT as someone with the same number AMBrc one are microscopic!

I thought the MRT ones could only be made if you all ready had an AMB one all ready, then they could make ANOTHER with the SAME number that YOU OWN all ready?

I think the MRT ones are confusing tbh, I've looked at them a couple of times - too many options, poor explanations and naff ordering system. They look cool but still when I've gone looking I've just been put off because I don't 'get it'

I had to ring them to understand it too... Once you've got it it's easy though. The website really is a bit cack

You don't have to have an AMBrc PT first to get a personal number from MRT though.

Default I got the red one )

The AMb seems fine, comes with lugs to bolt it down but cut them off and went the velcro route, red shows up better on photos also )

mrt own so many amb bugs, trade ins etc, they can not clone or make a number with out owning it, the only time you will clash is with another mrt, my amb number is mine and unique to me, they are not allowed to remake that number
