Wireless Router help!!

Help ooplers, took the plunge on a new WiFi router (TP-Link TL-WR1043ND) and have had no end of trouble trying to set the bloody thing up. I have had to reset it twice, hard reboot it twice as woke up this morning to no Wi-Fi or internet, I am just wondering if I should update the firmware, or, being that it is only a day old, take it back?

Yeah Steve, I have tried their setup assistant, there is also a 'quick seup' on the router, tried that to, I have just done a Firmware upgrade, see how that goes.

The concerning thing was that I would be logged into the setup on the router, then I just couldn't access it, even though I could ping the router on the IP address.

Try pinging an external source, if you can get one.

Failing that make sure that the connection type is either DCHP or PPoE

Also make sure upnp is activated (universal plug and play). This should remember the subnet mask of your pc (usually 255.255.255.0). Without it activated you might have to "make" it remember the computers IP address all over again everytime you turn it on.

Oh, and set your connection type as PPPoA, i found its much more stable than DCHP. (Only if your ISP allows you to choose, most specify PPPoA for you)

DHCP is enabled.
upnp is activated.

It is more the fact that over night, it turned the WiFi off on it's own. I am hoping the new firmware will have cured the problem.

When I upgraded ours the newer, better routers have a security feature enabled which turns off your wifi if inactive for a certain amount of time, you can alter or turn this off via the router setup with the ip address on the back of the router.

Just been onto the Tech Support chaps, and been through the settings on the router, put the latest firmware on it, if I lose Wi-Fi again, the Router is faulty.

Now all I got to do, is persuade Win Vista to backup to a network drive!

Fecking thing..... Wonder if Windows 7 will backup to the network drive.... can't remember if it is Ultimate installed, as the lower ones don't allow network backups.... Vista does but I think you need an MCIE diploma to work it!

If you are feeling clever its worth a go as it really is good and allows you to do more things than the standard firmware of most routers...

You may be able to flash update your old router Steve to bring it back to life then take the new one back and save some pennies...

I looked at that earlier Mike, and thought, no, tis brand new, can't take it back if I do that! (the old router works fine though, just wanted Network Storage which my old one didn't allow).

If it was an Apple Router I could help - I work for em sorry - I think from what u are describing it seems faulty.
