Default Rough sound when rear wheels turn?

Noticed this on Sunday - when I blipped the throttle my car sounded a little rough. Sorry I know this is very vague but I dont know what else to say!

Anyone any suggestions?

Craig.

First thing would be to take the pinion off and try and turn the wheels then and see if it does it. My guess could be that you didn't have your pinion & spur meshed right.

Ok, I've loosened the gear mesh so the spur doesnt turn the pinion and the noise had gone. so it mst be either the motor, gear mesh or pinion!

I think it could be the grub screw on the pinion slightly catching on the spur gear!

Will let you know in a minute!

Craig.

wont be the pinions grub screw that would make a noise even worse when at speed. As said before, either it is your brushless system growling or the diff slipping.

Could be a grain of sand in the spur gear, one grain can make a hell of a noise.

The first time I raced my gear mesh became loose and moved which slightly chewed the edge of my spur gear. it was only on the edge so I just moved the pinion along slightly so it was meshing with the intacked teeth!

could be this as its still making the noise after ajusting everything just now!

I dont think its because it brushless as it didnt used to sound like this. 7 I dont think its the slipper as it makes the noise when I push the car along the floor!

I'll try a new spur gear see if that works!

Craig.

That just leaves the motor!

ITS GONE!

Not quite sure what it was though! All I did was unsrew the motor and had a look inside at the bearing, but there wasnt anything to see so I tightened it all together again reset the mesh and hey presto it sound ok!

Maybe it was somthing to do with the mesh? would it sound rough if it was to tight?

I also noticed that I hadnt tightened the grub screw on the pinion onto the flat side of the motor shaft! could it have been this?

Anyway...thats for the help!

Craig.

Brushless still gets dirty, if it don't make the noise when the motor is not connected to the spur then it leaves either the spur, pinion or motor.

I think it was probably your mess it can sound rough if its too tight or too loose.

You need to be able to move the spur forwards and backward just a little bit.

How long were the screws you put in the motor? I dunno how big the rotor on brushless systems is but with normal motors if you put long screws in they catch on the armature, not good
