As I recall, gifts are only upto a value of £30ish. Special D is insured up to £500 as you say, but you have to put the value on the ticket BEFORE you send. So you can't retrospectively claim a greater value.

I suspect they will only cover you for £30 or so, and in my experience (quite a bit) they will say it was 'insufficiently packaged' even if it was not, then they don't have to pay you anything !!! You will need the original damaged packet, so they can decide on the packaging.

As for sorting you out with the money, if it is alot, they may 'forget' about it, and you will have to hassel them. But for small amounts, there quite quick, within a month.

Proof of value can simply be the receipt or a print out of the item from a shop.

I may be a little off in my facts, but not far. Anything not to pay out !

Obtain a confirmation email from the sender as to the packet contents, and value. Then send this and copy of shop details of replacement item.
pdf claim form can be printed from RM website.
As other poster says, keep hassling them, weekly till you get it settled.

It's the senders responsibility to ensure the item gets to you as described. If it's damaged in transit it's up to them to sort you out with a refund etc. They need to deal with RM, not you.

RM will only payout on the actual cost to the retailer of the item but they should refund you as the customer in full.
