Default Need advice - What to get?

Hi, I'm new here but have always liked remote control models. When I was young I had a Tamiya Grasshopper which was huge fun.

So, now I'm looking at what's available now and to see if I'd like to get back into it. What would you guys recommend? A friend who told me about this forum also suggested that a Team Associated B4 was a good choice. What do you guys think.

Thanks

Yes b4 would be a good choice for first car they are popular so won't have a problem with setup tips and spares are easy to get hold of

So where could I find a second hand example that is in a fair condition for me to try it out. Ebay only has new examples it seems.

you might as well buy one of the ready to run examples, complete with radio gear etc., makes more sense financially as everything you get is new and guaranteed. Then if you decide you dont like it and want to sell it, you can recover more cash.

This would be a good starting point CLICKY

Thanks, I'm looking at what's available online atm.

Are there any particularly good online retailers I should use? Also, does a RTR model need any more accessories to run it?

You will need a LIPO Battery and Charger for it.

Post a wanted ad on here mate, a lot of good quality used cars batteries etc available.Clubs close, people move house or give up a class, or just upgrade because they want the absolute latest kit.
I have bought cars, brushless systems and even a nintendo ds on here, no problems at all.

Default b4

I've only recently started out in rc and likewise went for a B4.1, got it from one of the guys at my local track. Equally got a blinding deal on the bay this week, theres still a couple on there at the mo tho

also a v good short course truck rtr, have bought from this seller before, looks good, would go for it meself but also got a slash off the bay

The B4 i've found to be an easy car to work on, and spares sets are often popping up on the bay too....now just need to work out how to drive it round the track

I've just been looking and theres a few options, but it seems that buying a B4 second hand costs around the same as (if not more expensive than) buying new.

Cost normally wouldn't be a issue except Xmas is a knocking and I have 6 family bdays on or around Xmas as well...and if you didn't already guess, yes I hate this time of year!!

I am interested in this though:

what parts would I need to make it ready to race, if any?

Default looking at it

well looking at it, you've got the esc and motor there, so would guess that pinion and spur gears are there.

In which case you'd be looking at a transmitter and receiver

I got this one off the bay, tis good and works well

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FS-GT2-2-4G-2C...item255c21c6f8

from china, so far all stuff i've ordered from HK has come within two weeks

and a lipo and charger to finish - always 2nd hand of each on the bay.

So cost wise I would guestimate somewhere in the region of £60+ 'ish?
