Default Advice on buying a XXX-cr please

Hi

Id like to hear feedback from people who run this car (non mid-converted) as Im tempted to get one seeing as there going for bargain prices

Dont even say get a B4!

How does it steer, jump, handle rough parts etc etc

what are the good and bad points of this buggy?

Ive heard some people arnt keen on them

Id mainly be running indoors and outside on astro

Currently Ive got a xx...how do they compare

I like the idea of a XXX because parts are easier to source!

thanks for your input

I changed from a B4 to the CR at the end of 2008 and stuck with it into spring of this year before I went back to the B4.

I loved the amount of rear grip it had, but could never get it to stay on line through a corner - indoors or out.
Apart from that it there wasn't much to choose between the two.

Happy to chat about it this Friday if you want.

PS: Get a B4!

I've had a XXX-CR since feb and it's been a mixed bag - mostly due to my bad driving however!

When setup properly, they are very forgiving and can take quite a bit of abuse. I've had trouble getting the right amount of steering from mine (often too much oversteer at high speed and too much understeer at low speed), however there is another guy at my club (The Doctor) who has his perfectly tuned.

They are certainly a good bargain at the moment and there are a couple of mid motor conversion options available if you decide to go down that route.

If they were all as cheap as this I may think about it!

So the XXX understeered?

Not to different from your B4 then Pete!

LOL, I asked for that!
at least it is predictable, unlike the CR and I know that it will be fine once setup, unlike the CR!

So far so good, i raced it all summer outdoors and had a good season. I used it indoors for the first time on friday and it was really twitchy, but that was more due to me not changing the setup from grass and also racing a Tamiya m-chassis for 6 weeks beforehand.

I've changed the setup for indoors now (some good ones on this site http://www.petitrc.com/setup/losi/Se...TripleXCR.html ) and it is a lot more balanced.

You should be able to pick up a good one with spares for £70-100 - not bad since the threaded shocks alone are going for £40-£50.

yeah how odd that the shocks are worth nearly as much as the car

are you tempted to mid-motor it? did you ever race with a xx?

for that kinda money i might keep an eye out...tho id have to put a BK2 shell on it

I would be tempted with the CR2 conversion as it would suit my aggressive driving style more, but the £170 price tag sort of puts me off - particularly as there is a new Ansmann mid-motor coming out in december.

I too have fitted a BK2 shell to mine and it looks ace

Glad you are happy with it Chris!

I think that whilst Chris and I agree in the main, it does also confirm that, as with most cars out there, personal preferences make a huge difference!

I found it frustrating having gone from the B4 with all it's steering I missed that more than I enjoyed the extra rear end grip it gained. I tried different setups throughout the year but just didn't get something I was comfortable with.

Have to say that the CR is one of the best cars I've ever raced. Same setup with some minor tweaks for every kind of surface, grass, astro, carpet and gravel.
I haven't had that problem with bad steering (not worse than any other car..) everyone is talking about and the quality is really good.
Think it is easy to drive and it can carry much cornerspeed without traction-rolling.

Won the Swedish regional indoor championships last year with it and did really well at the Euros in Bilbao and at the Petit race as well.

So I think it is a safe buy...

I think the CR requires a more experienced driver when compared to the B4. Simply because of the set up options available!

When i first got my CR it was ok... Then, after time i moved on to a B4... easier to set up and spares were easier to get trackside... I then moved onto an X-6, then to a Cougar, i didnt really get on with any of these to well so found myself buying another CR...

I love the car, i kept on going back to it as it just seemed so suited to my "local" tracks... Ive now got a CR2, which i swapped for my cougar and ill never look back! Such a nice car to drive! I still have my CR and use it every now and then along side the CR2...

If you get one make sure you read through the set up tips in the manual, it explains exactly what every option does, long and short VLA etc etc...

Once set up properly the CR for me was miles better than the B4... It just suits my driving style

well done on the win malkusson

seems like there seems to be alot of combinations on parts because some people are swapping wihsbones and hubs from the bk2 for example

i think this is needed for bumpy tracks or something?

I like the fact that Gil Losi jr had input into its design, as well as BK himself no doubt

The last of the "proper" losi's?

Send me your e-mail adress, and I'll send you info and pictures of modifications, and part numbers needed to really make this a weapon. Got loads of info from Frank Root(TL Project Manager), and my car is silly fast on carpet, gravel, astroturf and whatever else you can find now
