Hi guys, I need some input to help me setup my B-max4FT for a new track that is starting up. It's going to be indoors and 100% astroturf (so totally dry). Currently it's handling so well outdoors on slippery clay surfaces... But I need to adapt it to a smooth Astroturf surface with a few big jumps.
What I need advice with is which direction to adjust: Sping stiffness (currently running stock on the bigbores): go stiffer? Oil weights: Go heavier? Ride height: Go lower? and tire choice (I am totally lost here; Shumacher tires will be readily available) I can also post a complete setup sheet if you feel it will help you give more precise comments; let me know if you want this. Thanks in advance! ![]() |

![]() Never having raced offroad I'm no help on the setup, but I see Yardieeee has what would be considered a base setup for astro in the setup section. Its what I'll be using when my Bmax turns up.

Try Jorn's indoor setup for the petitrace
http://www.petitrc.com/setup/yokomo/...itRace2010.pdf or Yardy's bumpy astro setup both found on petit: http://www.petitrc.com/setup/yokomo/...ay20100606.pdf

not directed at codman why the hell would you build a off road car to run on astroturf? that makes no sence to me at all!! whats thecpoint of even making a off road car then? next we are going to see f1 cars running off road hitting massive jumps and tripples!! thats why when euro off road drivers come to the usa they cant even make b main!! thats just rediculous to me. if they want a astro turf car then make a car that is specificly designed for astro turf not a off road buggy/on road buggy!!

Thing is its easy for you to say that 'cos you're from Florida so your dirt tracks stay as dirt tracks most of the year, over here we can't rely on good weather so dirt tracks would turn into mud baths!
Most of the tracks in the UK are astro or grass and if you saw my local track (robin hood raceway) you would be hard pressed to find a better offroad track, plenty of bumps and jumps. Infact lots of astro tracks here include patches of cobbles, concrete and other surfaces so it'd be easy for us to say your american tracks are a bit one dimensional. ![]() So there! lol! Quote:

The UK is a differnet reality weather wise and they have adapted to it. Here it,s a question of running indoors without the possibility of bringing 30 tons of dirt into the building... And If you look at most the the UK Astroturf tracks, they are anything but smooth...
Different strokes for different folks! ''m just glad they aren't designing cars for Astroturf yet... Quote:

I am building the track in question and would like to answer Lex for my reason for building the astoturf track. First it's indoor, and like Codman said, the landlord wouldn't appreciate 2 tons of dirt being dumped into his building. Another reason is I want the track to be both on and off road, how this is accomplished, the jumps and obstacles are modular. This way I can remove them and make a on road track. We here in Canada don't have the luxury of manufacturers sponsoring our tracks, no one has offered to sponsor my track and believe me I asked everone, I take that back, only Schumacher did. So to maximise the usage I had to attract both categories of racers to make the most of it.
Don't think this is a bush league project, you won't find any straight boards layed flat to jump over. All the jumps and obstacles will look just like a dirt tracks, from tabletop jumps to rythum sections. I'll ask Codeman to post the vid of the completed track, only then you'll see what I mean. I am also going to add a british flavor to the track with coblestone section as well as a wall turn. Let me see someone make a wall turn out of dirt, any on I've seen have been made of wood and carpet. Come to think of it don't most dirt tracks use carpet on their jumps to keep them from deteriorating from use, so we've all raced on carpet off road to a certain degree. One last thing I'd like to add. Most tracks try to keep their suface as hard packed as possible, no one really races on loose dirt off road. If you look at the leisure hour track, were the ROARS took place this year, the track was so hard and smooth it could have been made of cement and no one would have noticed the difference. That being said, don't nock it t'ill you've tried it. You might like it. ![]() If you're ever in montreal Lex come see the track, I'll let you use it on the house ![]()

all im saying is why make a off road car that runs on astro turf or cement? design a car specificly for that and to answer your question we do not run on carpet with dirt thrown on top of it! its strictly clay. and if you get outside of the line in a blue groove track you lose it and loose controll of the car. our tracks are ran specificly to make it hard on the driver!! sometimes loose and sometimes grooved. also track conditions vary and change over a course of a hour or two depending on weather and other things very fast!! one round your running goose bumps and the next your running bar codes!! this is why i say astro turf and other tracks other than clay are extremely easy to drive on because you set your car up once and your done!! always have mass amounts of traction and never have to go out and buy a different set of tires. running indoors is EXTREMELY rough on a OFF ROAD CAR too your talking about diff gears every other week or so. but thats just me and my opinion!!

Well yea if the worlds are always held on dirt then you guys will always have an advantage, but if we put your guys on astro here in the UK the same thing would happen, we would easy beat you. Its swings and roundabouts.
I wasn't saying that US drivers are one dimensional, I was just saying that by comparison, we could easily say your tracks were, seen as you generally only run on one surface, whereas we don't. Quote:
