Default laying down astro questions

Going to ask here so if anyone can help let me know.

our new track is being built and we are going to lay down astroturf. its mainly in regards to the base prep we need for laying astro down.

is it just a case of cutting off the grass layer then laying it on a flat soil surface?
or will we be better off laying down a rubble base and flattening it soild?
or is it just possiable to cut the grass down then flatten the land and lay the astro ontop? will the latter cause any growth issues with things growing through the astro?

we want to run all sizes of cars from 1/10th up to 1/5th on it (so for the smaller 1/10th we want and need a very smooth surface). we have a digger on site permantaly and a massiave 30ton roller (the wheels are bigger than me on this thing!)

jsut unsure where to start as we used to put astro down on our last track but it was forever sinking and rutting up when it forms to the surface of the base

dont have the answer you want but i would suggest if you are laying astro some good drainage could be hidden away underneath unless of course you dont suffer with puddles

Wacker then roller to get a smooth surface is a good idea, even when you think it's smooth, it won't be as smooth as you think.

Talking astro laying

hi there,
on our project we used fresh soil and rolled with a 3.5 tonne bomag road roller when damp. goes down like concrete.
our astro was heavily sanded and the weight help the surface smooth out.
take a look at our track pictures for reference.
don't worry about the overlaps.
good luck....is a back breaking task by hand. best get plenty of man power.

thanks for that.

wont be a problem as the guy that is letting us use his land has a mini cat digger, roller, huge cat digger and a tipper truck and lorry so we are well sorted in regards to moving and getting stuff.

we want to be able to run 1/10th to 1/5th rally cars to hence why we are worried about the astro laying as it will need to be pretty flush for the smaller cars lol. (and a 10kg 50mph car will rutt anything pretty quickly lol)
