go to your local hobby store/ hobby shop and bring your diff. they should have some aluminum tubes there. Find a size that fits your outdrives tightly. this should only be a few pounds. Go home, cut them to an appropriate length, and use a drop of CA to hold them on. if you dont lather it on, they should be able to pull off fairly easily, but they shouldn't come off when you run the car. (i saw pics of this on another forum, so i'm not completely bs'ing you)

Im not sure if it would work as you would need the holes drilled on the sides to allow for the pin to go inside as the pin on the uj's is slightly longer than the diameter of the outdrive so you wouldnt be able to get the uj in without filing the end of the pin down which may result in the pin spinning in the outdrive.

The thing is though it wouldnt work so you are telling someone about it they could go to there local model shop buy some tube come home try and make it and find it doesnt work so then he thinks oh i got bad advice from oOple and he may stop using oOple. Which is a bad thing. So unless it works and YOU have tried it please dont post it.

Default Outdrive savers

Thanks all I have sorted a set of chris longs 2nd hand.I've been racing model cars for around 20yrs with the odd break, but I,ve just put the 1/8th car's down after 10yrs and come back to tenth so little things like this I know nothing about.Coventry last weekend was my first big meet with tenth since 1991 I was well chuffed with 2nd in the B 2wd & 3 in the B 4wd.

Thanks for all your help. The metal work option looked hard work and I think the air could ave got a bit blue in the old shed.BUT thank you for posting the thred.as I suspect chris long ones may be hard to get over there thus making your own may have been the only option unless you want to spend mega bucks!!! So thanks to all for all your help.

Because the pin would NOT fit inside of the tube. thats why it wouldnt work.

then take a dremel to it, it's not hard. Most of the stuff you see you can make yourself with a dremel.
