Default dodgy graphics card..green spots??

i have a new pc which i built the other month, the graphics card is a gigabyte gtx460 756mb card.

today i noticed some green speckles on the screen, they are there even in safe mode so im assuming its the card thats faulty and not the drivers??

i just put my monitor on the motherboards inbuilt graphics to test it and no speckles..i took a screen grab of the screen with speckles but they dont show up in the picture so had to use my camera.

first pic is with my camera and gtx 460,2nd pic is screen grab with gtx460..no dots.
with inbuilt mobo graphics i get no dots.

Are the spots there when you turn on the computer from cold?

If it happens after a while it could be that the card is over heating, try it with the side of the PC.

Does the power supply you are using have enough umph for all the components?

I run a 3 monitor system and was getting the exact same problem with just one of my screens. I tried another graphics card but it was still doing it. Turns out it was a monitor failing.

When i plugged my monitor into the on-board card, it worked fine. Have you tried different resolution settings, also are you using Nvidia monitor control or similar package?

You could try removing Nvidia, or running ATI control instead. If none of the above work, i think you've solved your own problem by confirming the graphics card gone.

How old is the card approx?

Its funny you mention ebuyer as ive repaired 2 computers as of late which have both had graphics card failures supplied by them.

But my monitor which ended up faulty didn't seem to do it with the on-board graphics for some reason. Maybe because it runs everything a bit more low spec and doesn't push the monitors graphics capabilities.

Have you got another monitor you could try? That would be the only way to confirm 100% the problem.

ok
ive connected an old 15" lcd flat monitor to it as the card is dual display..display is perfect albeit small.

then connected the small monitor thru the socket which the big monitor goes thru and its perfect..so could be monitor or the lead?

as the lead is use for the big monitor has dvi on both ends..the one for small monitor has dvi into vga..could this have some bearing?

Your on the right track, and the problem does look to lie with the cable or the monitor. Cheapest way to check would be to change the cable and hope that fixes it.

Are the 2 ports on the back of the graphics card Dvi and VGA, also are you able to plug your big monitor in via VGA instead of dvi?

both dvi on gpu
but i have another lead that the small monitor uses..dvi to vga, tried that and perfect,no spots

so either the cable or the dvi input on the monitor is at fault..

Brilliant, at least the problem has been narrowed down, and it put money that its the lead too. Treat her to a nice gold plated dvi lead.lol

If you have spent out on reasonably expensive kit for your pc i would persoanlly go for a good quality PSU from a trusted brand. I used to have a cheap one and wasnt impressed. Upgraded to a corsair psu and never looked back.
